nAzon-nLADE HOLDER;
. ApplicatiorrfiIed February 17, 1926. Serial N 88,724.
This invention relates to' a razor blade holder for the purpose. of sharpening the blades, and" while it is applicable to any of the ordinary thin blade type razors, especially intended for use with the double edged razors, one portion of the holder acting as. a guard to prevent the blade from cutting the strap during the time one of the edgesis being sharpened.
Another object of the invention 1s to provide means whereby the blade may be turned over in order to sharpen the second edge without removing the blade from the holder. I r
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder to which the blade is easily secured to or disconnected therefrom when it has been sharpened. I
-An' embodiment'of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout the several figures of the drawings and of which there may be modifications.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the blade and holder as it appears ready for use,
' showing the guard bar in the second posi tion in dotted lines, Figure 2 is a view'in edge of Figure 1 r 1 Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 with the blade removed therefrom, and with the spring for holding the blade disengaged from the holder,
Figure 4 is a view in edge elevation of the guard disengaged from the handle, and
Figure 5 is an end view of the guard disengaged from the handle. The numeral 1 indicates a tubular handle which has a bar 2 extending therefrom at one end, said bar being bent over at to engage and secure a spring l at one end. The spring 1 is curved so that it assumes the position shown'in Figure 8 when not under stress. The handle portion of the spring indicated ,at 5. is narrow enough to'pass into a slot 6 between the ends oftwoarnis 7v and lar portion of the handle has a slot 12 cut it is means to stop the guard bar 9 with the spring 5 in e ther one of two positions to provide the protection for one edge Of the elevation of the blade and holder looking from the right I I an old style razor would be used to sharpen tubular handle,a bar extending therefrom at Two raised tabs 10 and 11 on the handle:
salt bar.
i razor. blade "holder comprising "therein which allows the reduced portion 5 of the spr ng 1 to pass thereinto when the s ring isdepressed against the bar 2 by the v s, thumb. Thereupon the guard'is turned till the spring engageseither .of the notches 13 to 14 to prevent the guard from turning further. i
1 Inside the. arms 7 and 8 are the notches 13 and 14-, the-object of which is to provide blade necessary when sharpening the other edge of the blade elther on a strap or on a none. This blade guard is also made of .such a width as-to provide the proper angle for the sharpening of the bladesecured in the holder, said blade being indicated at 15in Figure 1.
As was previously mentioned,the holder may be used in connection with the ordinary thin single edged blades with or without stiffener secured to one edge, or it may be used in conjunction with the common form of double edged safety razor blades, in which event itis onlynecessary to depressthe spring and .turn the guard-180 degrees to enable the user to sharpen the second edge. In use the holder is drawn back and forth across the razor strap: or hone precisely as one ed e of the blade, after which the guard 'isreversed in position and the second edge then sharpened, f V I -llav1ng thus described my Invention, what i I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the" vention shown in the drawings and in are above particularly described form thereof, within the -purview claims; 7 Y
razor blade holder. comprising a one end, said-bar being bent over at its end of the annexed to form a clamp, a flat spring held in said I clamp and adapted to-curve outwardly from said bar in its free position,a .slot in said handle to receivesaid spring, a sleeve on said handle, a slotin said sleeve, a guard baron said sleeve and [oppositely placed notches adapted toreceive said spring on the inside sleeve at right angles to said guard tubular handle, a razor blade holding bar secured to the inside of saidhandle and extending therefrom, a spring clamp secured to the outer end of said bar and extending to the handle, said handle having a slot to receive the end 01" said spring, a rotatable sleeve on the handle hav ng notches to engage the spring to locl; the spring and sleeve in a given position on the handle, outwardly bent lugs on the handle to hold the sleeve in position and a guard bar on the sleeve extending outwardly therefrom.
3. A razor blade holder comprising a handle; a fiat spring secured thereto adapted to hold a razor blade in a fixed po's'ition, a
guard bar, a sleeve supporting said guard bar and surrounding said handle, said sleeve having a slot to permit the spring" to pass" lnto and out of the sleeve and alsenhavlng notches whereby the spring is capable of stopping the sleeve in either of two positions to enable opposite edges of the blade to be
