Description

j I 1. D.VAN HOEVENBERGH.
, Spring Adjuster.
Patented Oct. 20,1868.
gtie @www @time f l were JAMES D. VAN HOEVE'NBERGH, or KINGSTON, NEW YORK Letters Patent No. 83,343, dated October 20, 1868.
IMPROED SPRING-ADJUSTER.
` The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same;A
To all whom it 'ma/y concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES D. VAN HoEvENBnnGH, of Kingston, in the county of Ulster, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Spring-Adjnster for carriage and othersprings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full. and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, and repre:
senting a side view of a wagon, with the spring-'adj uster applied to one of its springs. l
The purpose of this instrument is to take the bend out of carriage and other springs when bent, or to re- Set them into form, when sprung out of shape. The
instrument eii'ects this purpose on carriage and wagon plied to the spring, for the llink fto bear upon, so as not to strain the spring at that place.
A movable bloclg, h, is applied between thelever and the bent part of the spring. The other end of the lever extends through or is attached to a block lm.,
which slides up and down on the shank of a hook, i,- .which is hooked around thespring, or som'e other sup@ The hook has port, in the proper position for action. a screw-thread, l, onits shank, and a nut, n, (with a handle, if preferred,) to turn thereon. On turningv the nut, the lever is operated, exerting a powerful action on the spring where the block h bears, sufficient to reset it into its proper form. The instrument is then readily removed. Y
The adjuster is simple, inexpensive, and readily applied, and is suiciently compact to be carried about with a wagon, when occasion'rnay seem to require.
XVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The improved spring-adjuster above described, its-V several parts being arranged, andl operating together, substantially as herein specified.
The above speciiication of my improved spring-ad?.
juster, signed by me, this 15th day of May', 1868.
