Description

BENJAMIN OHARNOOK, OF WEST LAFAYETTE, OHIO.
WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Sept. 18, 1906.
Application filed December 11 1905. Serial No- 291,246.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN OHARNooK,
The wrench-jaws O and D are placed in engagement with the nut and are tightened by a citizen of the United States, residing at j means of the handles, which are operated by l/Vest Lafayette, in the county of Ooshocton hand. The loop is then placed in engagement and State of Ohio, have invented certain new with one of the serrations, so as to lock the and useful Improvements in Wrenches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to wrenches used for removing the nuts of vehicle-axles and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the wrench. Fig. 2 is a view looking at the wrench edgewise. Fig. 3 is a crosssection taken on the line x 90 in Fig. 1.
AandB are the handles of the wrench. The handle A is provided with a laterally-proj ect ing wrench-jaw O at its upper end portion, and b is a guide provided with a slot arranged at the upper part of the said handle above its jaw and in line with the handle A. The handle B is provided with a laterally-projecting wrench-jaw D, arranged above the wrenchjaw O. l
E is a block which is slidable in the slotted guide and which has a head or flange e for keeping it in the slot. F is a pivot-pin which projects from the said block and which has the wrench-handle Bpivoted upon it. A nut 3 5 f is provided on the end of the pivot-pin for keeping the pivoted handle in position.
G is a thumb-screw which engages with the upper end portion of the guide and which projects longitudinally in its slot and bears against the pivot-block E.
H represents serrations on the lower end portion of the handle B. A loop I is pivoted by a pin "L to the lower end portion of the handle A and is provided with a tooth h, which engages with any one of the serrations H.
jaws. The serrations are cut in a surface which is inclined with respect to the pin 'i, so that the aws can be clamped tightly on the nut. The thumb-screw is turned, so as to adjust the wrench-jaws to the nut and form an abutment for the pivot-block. The nut is removed with facility, as it cannot slip in the wrench-jaws, and it is held by them after its removal, so that it can be replaced with equal facility.
What I claim is 1. In a wrench, the combination, with a handle having a wrench-j aw at one end, of a second handle provided with a wrench-jaw near one end and having a guide projecting beyond the said jaw, a pivot for the first said jaw slidable in the said guide, and a screw for adjusting the position of the said pivot projecting from the end of the said guide on the opposite side of the pivot from the said handles.
2. In a wrench, the combination, with a handle having a wrench-j aw at one end, of a second handle provided with a wrench-jaw near one end and having a guide projecting beyond the said jaw, a pivot for the first said jaw slidable in the said guide, a screw for adjusting the position of the said pivot projecting from the end of the said guide on the opposite side of the pivot fromthe said handles, and a catch for connecting together the other end portions of the said handles from the said aws.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN OHARNOOK.
