PIPE-TONGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,797, dated May 23, 1893.
Application tiled March 24, 1893.
To all whom tr may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT CHARLES JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mars,
Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Tongs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a f ull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it pertains to make and use the sa me, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved pipe wrench, and consists in certain details of construction, and combination of parts as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings Figure is a side elevation of my improved pipe Wrench, which is constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a Side elevation of the slotted gripping tongs, separated from the clamp.
To put my invention into practice I provide a bar of metal l, for a handle, having a sharpened edge 4 at one end thereof and slightly curve the said end to fit neatly about the pipe 5. Arranged in a recess in this forward end of the bar l is a removable triangular piece of steel 3, which together Serial No. 467,475. (No modeLi with the sharp edge 4 will take a firm hold of the pipe 5 when held by the clampingjaw 7. Formed in the bar l at a suitable point is A lines on the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein described pipe Wrench, consisting of the bar l having the sharpened edge 4 and curved portion to fit neatly about the pipe, the removable triangular piece 3, the slot 2 formed in the said bar 1, the clamping jaw 7, and the pivot 6, all arranged and coinbined for service, substantially as and for the purpose described.
