Description
PATENTED JULY 31, 1906- W. C. KIRK.
UUSPIDOR.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 20, 1900.
WEBSTER C. KIRK, OF INGRAM, PENNSYLVANIA.
CUSPIDOR- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1906.
Application filed March 20, 1906. Serial No. 306.988.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WEBSTER C. KIRK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ingram, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cuspidors; and the invention has for its primary object provision of novel means'in connection with a cuspidor for retaining the contents thereof within the cuspidor should the same be accidentally tilted or upset.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive cuspidor which will present a neat and attractive appearance by shielding the contents thereof.
Briefly described, my improved cuspidor comprises a receptacle u on which is detachably mounted a funnel-s aped lid or cap having a central depending spout extending within close proximity to the bottom of the receptacle.
The above construction will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically claimed, and, referrin to the drawings accompanying this app ication, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout both views of the drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of my improved cuspidor, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the same.
To put my invention into practice, I con struct my improved cuspidor of a receptacle 1, having tapering side walls 2 2, the upper edges of which are vertically disposed, as at 3, and provided with screw-threads 4. The bottom 5 of the receptacle is preferably of a greater thickness than the sides thereof to assist in maintaining the receptacle in an upright position and prevent it from being easily tilted or upset.
Detachably mounted upon said receptacle is a funnel-shaped ca 6, having a depending annular flange provided with interior screwthreads 7, adapted to engage the screwthreads 4 of the receptacle 1. The funneltents of the rece tacle from passing out of a the cuspidor shou d the same he accidentally tilted or upset The formation of the central depending spout 8 provides an annular compartment 10, having for its bottom the funnel-shaped cap 6, when the cuspidor is inverted, thus forming a receptacle for the con tents of the cuspidor until the cuspidor is again placed in its proper position.
My improved cuspidor is constructed of strong and durable metal, which may be nickel-plated or suitably finished to present a neat and attractive appearance.
Such changes in the construction of the cuspidor as-are permissible from the a pended claim may be resorted to without eparting from the spirit or scopeof the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is I As an article of manufacture, a metallic cuspidor embodying a receptacle or bowl, the side walls of which taper outwardly from the bottom to a point near the top and from said point to the top extend vertically, said vertical portion of the walls being provided with screw-threads, and the bottom of said receptacle or bowl being of greater thickness than the side walls thereof, a funnel-shaped cap for said receptacle or bowl having its rim resting on the rim of the receptacle or bowl and provided with an overhanging annular flange having interior screw-threads engaging the threads of the bowl, and a central depending spout integral with the funnelshaped cap and having a contracted lower end terminating in close proximity to the bottom of the bowl substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WEBSTER O. KIRK.
