Description

PATENTED ULY 9 r. YOUNG.
CORK ommm. APPLICATION FILED PEB- IB. 1907.
attouwl o FRANK YOUNG, OF KNIGHTS LANDING, CALIFORNIA.
CORK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1907.
Application filed February 18, 1907. Serial No. 358,064.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK Y OUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knights Landing, in the county of Yolo and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cork-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottles, and more particularly to a cork holder for the same, and has for its object to provide a device of this kind which will be comparatively inexpensive, and will afford a convenient place for the cork of a bottle after the same has been removed for the purpose of emptying any portion of the contents.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section of a bottle provided with my holder; and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a bottle or similar receptacle, which can be formed from glass, porcelain, china, or any other material, or even of metal. of any desired shape or size with its upper end contracted to form the ordinary neck, 2, and shoulder, 3. Formed upon the shoulder adjacent to the neck is my improved attachment, 4, which is preferably in the form of a hollow receptacle, substantially similar to l the neck of the bottle but of a less height.
The vessel or receptacle can be formed The holder, 4, is placed at such a distance from the neck that when the cork, 5, is inserted thereinto or removed therefrom. it will not engage with the ordinary lip or rib, 6, formed around the upper end of the neck.
It is evident from the foregoing that by providing a bottle or similar article with my cork holder, a convenient place is provided for holding the cork whenever it is taken out of the bottle and it also prevents the liquid upon the cork from soiling any material it may come in contact with when laid down promiscuously, as is frequently the case with the ordinary bottle, and it also prevents the cork from being misplaced or lost, as the cork can be immediately placed in the holder whenever it is taken out of the bottle.
Having described my invention, what 1 claim is- A new article of manufacture, a bottlehaving a neck with a projection at its upper end and a pork holder substantially similar to but of a less height than the neck of the bottle, said holder being located upon the exterior of the shoulder of the bottle and at such a distance from the neck that when the cork is being inserted into or removed from said holder it will not contact with the projecting portion at the upper end of the neck.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK YOUNG.
