This invention relates, generally, to improvements in stoppers for bottles, vials, and the like; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel construction of bottle and stopper therefor, the

stopper especially being of such a construction that it can not be withdrawn from the neck of the bottle, vial, or the like, without an indication to the person desiring touse some of the contents of the bottle, vial, or

the like, that certain caution should be exercised in the use ofthe contents; in other words the manner of withdrawing the stopper being an indication that the contents of the bottle, vial, or the'like, are poisonous, or are otherwise objectionable.

The present invention, therefore, has for its principal object to provide a novel and simply-constructedbottle-neck and stopper therefor, which stopper can not be withdrawn from the neck-of the bottle, vial or the like, in the usualmanner, but for removal of the contents of the bottle or vial is adapted to be moved in opposite directions horizontally, and 'intermediately in; vertical directions, until the stopper, is finally dislodged from within the neck. of the bottle or vial, the unusual manner, employed in the withdrawal of the stopper indicating to'the operator, that the contents of the bottle or vial should first be examined, before taking,

The invention has for its further object to provide a bottle I and novel stopper therefor which will not become dislodged from the neck of the bottle orvial in case the bottle or vial should be upset, thus provid ing a useful stopper for bottles containing acid, ink, or other liquid The novel stopper,

Other objects of this time not more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention.

Vith the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel stopper hereinafter set forth; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements'and combinations of the various devices and parts, all of which will be more fully described in the following specification and which cooperate one with the other in the manner set forth in said specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a vertical sectional representation of the neck-portion of a suitable bottle provided with a stopper made according to the principles of the present invention, the stopper being represented partly in elevation and partly in section, and in its closin g relation within the mouth of the neck of the bottle.

Fig. 2 is an elevation of the stopper, looking in the direction of the arrow w in said Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a similar view. of the stopper, looking in the direction .of the arrow 7 in said Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the side of the stopper opposite from that illustrated in said Fig. 1.

Referring now to the said drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates a fragmentary portion of any suitable bottle, or the like, 2 is the neck thereof, and?) theinouth or pouring portion of the same, which, if desired, may be tapered, as at 4. drawings, it will thus be seen, that-the shanlsportion 7 of the stopper is made-with grooves or channels16, 21 and 26, as I am fully aware that the number of such grooves or channels, and of the said ribs -or walls may be suitably changed, and their general arrangement maybe raised", without departing from the scope of the present invention.
