I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK GEORGE, OF NORTH STA'R, OHIO.
co'm amso SHOW-CASE, coonrzn, AND CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent; Application filed Haylfi, 1906- Sei-ial No. 317,179.
Patented. July 24, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK GEORGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Star, in the county of Darke and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Combined Show-Case, Counter, and Cabinet, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vcombinedv showcases, counters, and cabinets for the storage anddisplay of merchandise of various 'kinds,. and has for its object to improve the'con-' form of the embodiment-of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing anyof the-advantages of this inventionwithin the scope of the appendedclaimsQ In the drawings, Figure 1 is a transverse section. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 represents perspective views of a portion of one of the vertical members and one of the lower transverse members, illustrating their construction. a 1
p The improved device comprises a rectangular body portion formed of a front frame 10, end ,frames 11 12, and top frame 13, the front frame having transparent sections 14 and the end frame having transparent portions 15 16. p
The top frame is provided with a rabbet 17 and in its inner edges forming a shoulder to support a transparent portion 18, and the.
top frame is likewise provided with spaced transverse bars 19, the upper faces of the bars coming flush with the seats of the shoulders formed by the rabbets 17 and bearing beneath the transparent portion 18.
Extending longitudinally of the body and between the end frames 11 12 and spaced from the top frame 13' is a member formed of two parts 20 21, the part 20 having a longitudinal rabbet. in its lower inner corner and forming a guideway 22 between the parts-20' 21, whilethe part 21 is provided with a longitudinal channel -in its lower face and forming a guideway 23, spaced from the guideway 22. The end frames '11 12 are also connected at their lower rear ends by a member formed in two parts 24 25, the part 24 having a rabbet forming a guideway 26 between the parts and the part having a longitudinal channel in its upper face also forming a guideway 27, the guideways 22 and 23 being in vertical alinement, respectively, with the guideways '26 27. The guideways are designed to sup-v port doors 28 29, which are slidable past each other, and thus form movable closures to the otherwise open rear portion of the body.
' Extending between the front frame 10 and i the inner part 21 of the spaced longitudinal member are upper transverse members 30, corresponding to the bars 19 and bearing beneath the same, and bearing beneath these transverse members at their ends'are vertical members 31 32the members 31 at the 'rear of the body and against the parts 21 and 25- of the longitudinal members and the members 32 at the front'of the body and bearing against the front frame 10. Extending between the members 31 and 32 at their lower ends. are lower transverse mm. bers 33, preferably halved upon the members 31 and 32, as represented in Fig. 4, the
while a similar stay member 39 extends between the side members of the end frame 12 and is provided with a supporting-strap 40'. The upper faces of the several stra s are disposed. below the upper faces of t e several stay members and form supports for shelves 41, the latter preferably of. glass or other transparent material.
Attached to the side faces of the upper transverse members are cleats 42 to form supports to drawers 43, the latter removable through the rear ofthe body and between the top frame 13 and the longitudinal members 20 21. The contents of the drawers are thus constantly in view through the transparent member 18 and can be displayed to advantage without exposure to dust and otherwise ,rotected. The goods dis osed u on the sl felves Hand floor 34 are a so in view from the outside and displayed toadvantage and fully protected.
The arrangement of the upper longitudinal member in two parts 20 21 and the lower longitudinal member in two parts 24 25iis an important advantage, as the rabbet 22 and 26 and the channels 23 and 27 can be formed in the strips before they are assembled at less expense and-less expensive material employed in the construction. The construction of the inner framework also adds materially to the value and efiiciency of the device and also materially increases the strength and durability of the structure.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. In a structure of the class described, a body having a rectangular top frame formed with shoulders in its inner edges and spaced transverse bars with their u per faces even with the faces of said should ers, a trans arent member bearing upon said shoul ers,
and likewise bearing upon-said bars, a member extending longitudinally of said body at the rear and spaced from said top frame, transverse members bearing beneath said bars and provided with drawer-supporting cleats, drawers bearing upon said cleats and removable through the spaces between said longitudinal member and top frame, vertical members bearing beneath said transverse members at the ends, stay-bars extending between said vertical members intermediate their ends and provided with straps bearing against the sides of said stay-bars and extended at the ends over said vertical members, and serving as supports for shelves within the body.
2. In a structure of the class described, a
likewise bearing upon said bars, a member extending longitudinally of saidbody at the rear and spaced from said top frame, and
formed in two parts with a longitudinal rabbet in the inner lower corner at the outer part and forming a 'guideway between the parts and.a longitudinal groove in the lower face of the inner part, a member extending longitudinally of the body at its lower portion and formed in two parts with a rabbet in the upperinner corner of the outer part and forming a guideway between the parts and a channel in the other part and. forming a guideway therein, doors slidably disposed in said guideways and adapted to move past each other to form movable closures to the rear of body, upper transverse members bearing beneath said top frame-bars and provided with drawer-su porting cleats, drawers. bearing upon said cleats and, removable between said top frame and said spaced longitudinal member, vertical members bearing beneath said upper transverse members at the ends, lower transverse members extending between said vertical members at their lower ends, a floor to the body bearing upon said lower transverse members, stay-bars between said vertical members intermediate their ends and provided with straps bearing against the sides of said staybars and extended at the ends over said vertical members and serving as supports for shelves Within the body.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
, FRANK GEORGE. Witnesses:
