ATENT COMBINATION SHOW-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 635,191, dated October 17, 1899.
Application filed March 21, 1898. Serial No. 674.668. (No model.)
To (all w/wnt it may concern.-
Be it known that we, PHILIP SANGER and CLARENCE L. SHUMATE, citizens of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Show-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The chief object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved combination show-case, wherein are provided a rear compartment practically concealed from view to contain reserved goods or stock and a front compartment for the exhibition of the forward goods or stock, the construction being such that access to the reserve and forward goods or stock is readily effected through the medium of doors, which at the front are transparent to exhibit the forward goods or stock to customers. This objectis accomplished in the manner and by the means hereinafter de scribed and claimed, referencebeing made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination show-case embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the base, and 2 the upright skeleton framework,of the show-case, the top, front, and portions of the ends of which are composed of glass, preferably plateglass, to enable customers to inspect the goods or stock ofiered for sale and which are placed in the forward-stock compartment hereinafter referred to.
The interior of the show-caseis divided by a perpendicular partition 3 and a horizontal partition 1 into a rear compartment 5 and front and top compartments 6 and 7. The partitions 3 and 4E extend longitudinally the full length of the frame of the show-case, the horizontal partition resting at its front edge upon the top edge of the perpendicular partition. The partition 3 is furnished at its front with a mirrorsurface 8, and the upper side of the partition 4 is provided with a similar mirror-surface 9. The rear compartment 5 contains any desired number of shelves 10, supported by suitable brackets 12, preferably secured to the rear side of the perpendicular partition 3. Im-
mediately in front of the mirror-surface of the perpendicular partition are arranged a series of vertical rods or standards 13, carrying vertically-adjustable horizontal brackets 14, on which are placed shelves to support the forward goods or stock in the forward or front compartment 6. This front compartment 6, as well as the top compartment 7, serves to display or exhibit what we term the forward goods or stock, so that the same can be inspected by customers. The horizontal partition 4, with its mirror-surface 9, serves to support any desired articles or goods in the top chamber '7, and the shelves 15 serve to support articles or goods in the chamber 6. The shelves 15 are preferably composed of plate-glass, and likewise the upper side of the partition 4 may be provided with plateglass instead of a mirror-surface 9.
The front of the show-case is composed of sliding plate-glass doors 16 and 17, and the top of the case is also composed of plate-glass 18. The rear of the show-case is composed at its top portion of sliding doors 19 and at its lower portion of sliding doors 20. The sliding doors 19 serve for convenient access to the top chamber 7 of the show-case, while the sliding doors 20 serve for convenient access to the rear compartment 5, which contains the reserve goods or stock. The forward and top exhibitiomcompartments are designed to be replenished from time to time, as occasion requires, with goods taken from the rear reserve compartment 5, as will be obvious without further explanation.
The rear sliding doors 19 and 20 may be ordinary wooden doors, or they may be composed of glass or any material suitable for the purpose.
The base skeleton and frame of the showcase are preferably composed of oak wood; but obviously these parts can be constructed of any material and in any form, shape, or configuration that may be desired.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is- 1. A show-case, consisting of a skeleton frame having at the front sliding glass doors and at the rear upper and lower independent doors, aperpendicular partition running longitudinally of the skeleton frame and having at its top a horizontal partition extending rearward to a back part of the frame, for the purpose of dividing the case into afront and top compartment for the display of forward goods and a rear compartment for reserved goods, the upper rear door serving for access to the top compartment and the lower rear door for access to the reserved-goods compartment, and shelves located in the front compartment between the said perpendicular partition and the front sliding door, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A show-case, consisting of a skeleton frame, a perpendicular partition extending longitudinally the full length of the frame and joined at its upper end to a horizontal partition extending rearward to a back part of the frame for dividing the case into top and front forward-goods-display compartments and a rear reserved-goods compartment, shelves arranged, respectively, in front and in rear of the said perpendicularpartition, sliding glass doors at the front of said skeleton frame for access to the forward-goods compartment, and upperand lower doors at the rear of the frame for access, respectively, to the top compartment and the reserved-goods compartment, substantially as described.
3. A show-case consisting of a skeleton frame, a perpendicular partition dividing th interiorinto a front compartment for the dis play of forward goods and a rear compartment for containing reserved goods, a hori zontal partition at the top of the reserved goods compartment, rods or standards direct-1y in front of the perpendicular partition brackets arranged on the rods or standard: and provided with suitable shelves, bracket: secured to the inner side of the perpendiculal partition and provided with suitable shelves, a top compartment above the reserved-goods compartment, sliding doors for access to the top compartment, sliding doors for access to the reserved-goods compartment, and plateglass sliding doors at the front of the frame for access to the forward-goods compartment, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of subscribing witnesses.
