HARVEY 6. WHEELER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
' TOWEL-CABENET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 10, 1906.
Application filedfi tember 15,1905. Serial No. 278,658.
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY C. WHEELER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suifolk,()01nmonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Towel-Cabinets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is the construction of an improved device for supporting an elongated strip of 'toweling by means of rollers attached to the ends thereof, by means of which a fresh section of the same can be kept constantly presented until the whole has been used.
Referring to the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of a cabinet embodying my improvements. Fig. :2 is a similar sectional view of the lower part of said cabinet, but
showing the toweling wholly retired from access. Fig. 3 is a similar view, but showing the toweling put out of sight, although capa bio of being taken out by simply opening the door of the cabinet. Fig. 4 is a detail view of one end of one of the towel-rollers. Fig. 5is a similar view of the opposite end of such roller. Fig. 6 is a side View of an end of the spaceroll, showing its bearing.
The general appearance of the cabinet 1, to which my improved towel-supplying arrangement is applied, does not greatly vary from those which I have previously made and put upon the market; but within the lowermost compartment 5 thereof is located the towel-rollers l0 and 16, to which are affixed the ends of the long stri of toweling T. These rollers are rotative y supported within recesses formed in the sides 8, as shown in igs. a and 5, a trunnion 11 at one end. of each roller entering the recess 12, and a removable knob 17, penetrating the opposite side and having spurs 19 entering suitable openings therefor 1n the roller end, being rovided for the other'end of each roller.
y removing said knobs the rollers can be easily withdrawn for replacing the soiled towel with fresh. My preferable means for attaching the ends of the toweling to the rollers consist of tacks or screws 14, permanently fined in the rollers and engaging buttonhoies 1-5 in the cloth. This arrangement is inexpensive and at the same time efficient, while the buttonholes or other eyes do not interfere with the laundry work 11, on the toweling. By turning said knobs t e cloth 1 can be wound up on one roller and unwound from the other until the desired amount is ex )osed for use.
prefer to have the towel issue from the upper front art of the compartment 5 for the reasons ereinafter set forth, providing for such purpose a-roll or bar 30 between the top edge of t 1e compartment front 7 and the under surface of the shelf 3. Between the two narrow slits thus formed issue thetwo lengths of the towel, as shown in Fig. 1. This roll 30 is made removable by providing the trunnion 31 at one end thereofwith a reccss 33 sufficiently elongated verticall to permit such enitto be lifted free there 0m and the wholefo" l, withdrawn. The shelf 3, being hinged at i s 'rear edge, can be thrown back and so out of the way. (See Fig. 6.) Ordinarily the section of towel when not and the door 4 c osed; but w on in use the door is open and the towel-section hanging,
as shown in Fig. 1. i
It often happens that an office proprietor part of the towel in his cabmet, while stil willing to have them use the mirror on the other toilet appliances may be contained upon the shelf 2 of the cabinet. To provide for such, the shelf 3 is provided with a lock and key, (indicated at 40 in Fig. 2.) The office proprietor then simply removes the roll 30 and tucks the towel-section within the compartment 5, afterward returning the roll to its place and locking the shelf 3 down in position. This effectually secures the towel against use by any one else.
What I claim as my invention, and for which I desire Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
1. A cabinet provided with a towel-comthe top of said compartment, a space being allowed between said shelfand the top edge rollers located in said compartment, t0wel-. mg secured to the same and extended out cabinet reaching be ow said space; whereb a the towel can be folded back upon said she f will also shut in said space.
partment in its lower end, a shelf forming does not care to have other parties use any I interior of the cabinet-door and whatever partment in its lower end, a shelf forming of said compartinents front, one or more 2. A towel-cabinet provided with a com" the top of said compartment, a space being in use is folded u and backu on the shelf 3 ward through said s ace, and-a door for said M when not in use, and the door when closed out and in through Sfiid spams above and benawed bgtween smal waif and the' 0 cage 05 said compartments Emmi, & bar lowfmd in said space, air of ro'fiers Within said compartment, 5m a length of toweling ter m nally secured to said rollers and-passing 10W said bin".
3. A cabinet jrovided with a toivehconv partment in its ower and, a movable shelf forming the top of said compafiment, a space being ailewed betwsau mid shelf and the top edge or" said compariments from,
ralleg's located in sa'ici compm'h'nent, tow/ rek 311g sggcuredtherete and extended Gut-weld .fibrough said spams, :3 door fer the. cabinet reaching baiow said space, and means for lockingsaid shelf in position. v
in testimony that? claim the foregoing invelitvionl haw hereunto set my hand this 13th day is? Sepmmb'er, 1905.
