Description

. E. E. EVEBITT.
Combined Desk and W'ash Stand. No.168,732.
UNITED S ATE PATENT OFFICE,
ELISHA EVERITT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED DE SkS AND WASH-STANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,732, dated October 11, 1875; application filed January 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISHA E. EV'ERITT, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Combined Desk and Wash- Stand; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, inwhich is shown a perspective of my invention. r
The object of my invention is to provide a piece of furniture which will subserve the double purpose of a desk and wash-stand, presenting the appearance of, and' susceptible of use as, the former when closed, and at the same time being. adapted for employment as the latter, having receptacles for the various toilet articles, as hereinafter more fully described.
,My invention, then, consists of a combined desk and wash-stand, of the specific construction hereinafter described, and set forth in the claim. a
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the pedestal of the desk, forming, also, the
body of the wash-stand, provided with recesses B B on each side, designed to hold, respectively, the water-pitcher and slop-jar. O
' is a similar opening in front, in which may be placed the chamber-vessel or commode. D is the ledge or projecting part, which forms the leaf of the desk, and serves as a receptacle for a basin, soap-dish, towels, comb, brush, &c. The receptacles B B and O are each furnished with hinged doors, as shown, while the ledge D has ahinged lid, the lower surface of which may be supplied with a mirror, which will be in position for use when said lid is thrown back. E represents a mirror-frame, having shelves 0 e, furnished also with drawers, if desired. For this frame there may be substituted a desk-railing, or any suitable equiv- .alent furniture-capping piece. F and G are drawers, one of each on each side of the desk or wash-stand. and designed for the reception of writing and shaving materials. His a towelrack, attached to the doors of one of the recesses B.
This piece of furniture will not only serve the double purposes of a desk and Washstand,
but will be adapted to stand in places, such as oflices, where an ordinary washstand would not be tolerated. When closed up it conceals the various articles employed for toilet purposes, presents the appearance of an ornamental writing-desk, and may be used as such with effect.
For some places the chamber 0 maybe a simple opening without doors, or the three compartments B B C may, in other cases, be thrown into one or two.
I do not claim, broadly, as my invention a combined wash-stand and'writing-desk, the
. same being already patented.
What I claim as my invention is-- As a new article of manufacture, the combined desk and wash-stand, constructed with the cabinet-base A, having receptacles B G, &c., and the projecting ledge D, having an internal recess to hold basin, &c., and a hinged lid, forming a desk-leaf, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of January, 1875.
' ELISHA E.'EVERITT.
