Description
-LOUIS KREUTER, DE LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION DRESSING-TABLE AND CHIFFONNIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Junie 5, 1917.
Application filed September 11, 1916'. Serial No. 119,584.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS KREUTER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Dressing- Tables and Ohiifonniers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an article of furniture and particularly pertains to "a piece of furniture adapted to be utilized for various purposes. a
It is the object of this'invention to provide an article of furniture which is compositely constructed and arranged in a manner to provide a chiffonnier Within which a hat-rack is incorporated, and at the side of which a full length mirror is mounted, so
that they may be converted to provide a writing desk and a dressing table, the construction of which insures that the various component elements will be compactly arranged and may be disposed in their open position without difficulty.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the piece of furniture and illustrates in dotted lines the extended position of the dressing table.
Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation of the article as shown in Fig. 1 and illustrates the extended position of the writing desk. 7
Fig. 3 is a view in plan illustrating the piece of furniture and illustrates by dotted lines the extended position of both the dressing table and writing desk.
Referring to the drawings more particularly, 10 and 11 indicate the vertical side walls of a chiffonnier, between which are slidably mounted a series of drawers 12. Above the drawers 12 is a compartment 14 which is fitted with a hinged door 15 adapted to swing horizontally and to form a closure for the compartment 14 which is provided as a receptacle for hats and the like.
Extending from the upright 11 and upon a plane parallel to the rear wall of the chifl'onnier, is a rectangular frame 16 within which is mounted a mirror 17 which is of a size to extend substantially from the floor to the top of the chiffonnier.
Disposed directly beneath the compartment 14 is a drawer 18 which is slidably mounted above a writing desk 19. The writing desk is formed with a horizontally slidable board 20 upon which is built a series of compartments for writing materials and memoranda. desk room, a hinged extension. 21 is secured to the forward edge of the board 20 and normally extends vertically to form a closure for the compartment in which the desk is slidably mounted. lVhen the desk is drawn outwardly to its outermost position the member 21 is swung downwardly and forms a continuation of the board 20.
Directly beneath the desk compartment is a compartment 22 which is formed with an opening through the side 11 of the chiffonnier and is provided to accommodate a dressing table 23. This table is fitted with a pair of supporting legs 24 which are secured at the outer end thereof and are adapted to fit snugly against the side of the chiifonnier when the dressing table is in its closed position. It will be observed that when the table is drawn to its outermost position it will be disposed in front of the mirror 17 and may thus be conveniently used as a dressing table.
When the desk is to be used the board 20 is drawn outwardly and thereafter the extension 21 is swung downwardly to form a continuation of this board, thus forming a writing plane of sufiicient area for convenience. The desk may be closed by forcing the board 20 inwardly and thereafter swinging the extension upwardly to close the desk compartment. A suitable latch may be provided for holding the member 21 in its uppermost position.
When it is desired to use the dressing table, it may be drawn outwardly from the side of the chiffonnier by a knob 25'and will thus be disposed before the mirror 17 in a manner to permit a chair to be drawn before it to be used as convenience requires. It will be noted that the table is so mounted as to allow it to be moved without disturbing the articles upon it and thus serves the purpose of a drawer when closed.
It will thus be seen that the article of furniture here disclosed provides a compact device which may be readily converted'for various uses and which also affords storage compartments for a large number of articles and clothing.
Thus I have produced an article of furniture comprising a cabinet frame of the chif- In order to provide suflicient fonnier type, a full length mirror extending sidewise from the frame in line with the back, a dressing table slidingly mounted in the frame to pull out in front of the mirror, said dressing table being more or less walled all the way around so as to hold the toilet articles, and the space below the extended dressing table being clear to give an unobstructed view of the lower part of the mirror, and a writing desk slidingly mounted in the cabinet frame at a higher level than the dressing table and to pull out forwardly at right angles to the dressing table so that both may be extended for use at once; the remainder of the cabinet frame being devoted to drawers, wardrobe space, and the like.
I claim:
1. An article of furniture comprising a cabinet frame of the chiifonnier type, a full length mirror extending side-wise from the frame in line with the back, a dressing table slidingly mounted in the frame to pull out in front of the mirror, said dressing table being more or less walled all the way around Copies of this patent may be obtained for so as to hold the toilet articles, and the space below the extended dressing table being clear to give an unobstructed view of the lower part of, the mirror, and a writing desk slidingly mounted in the cabinet frame at a higher level than the dressing table and to pull out forwardly at right angles to the dressing table so that both may be extended for use at once; the remainder of the cabinet frame being devoted to drawers, wardand the space'below the extended dressing table being clear to give an unobstructed view of the lower part of the mirror.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
LOUIS KREUTER.
