Description

PATBNTED MAY 15, 1906.
R. P.' KOONS. TROUSERS PRESSER. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 2, 1906.
A TTOR/VE 1/5 UI STATES PATEN rue.
TROUSERS-PRESSEFL Specification of Letters Patent.
L'atented May 15, 1906.
Application filed January 2, 1906. Serial No. 294,197.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT P. KOONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lees Summit, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Trousers-Presser, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trousers-pressers, and has for an object to provide a device of the class embodying new and improved features of convenience, durability, and efficiency. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a trousersresser embodying back and front pressing-boards and improved means for clamping the boards yieldingly together and upon the trousers.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved trousers-presser assembled. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the improved presser. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one form of pressure-spring and socket member in operative position. Fig. 4 4 is a perspective view of the form of spring and socket member shown at Fig. 3 and open in position for the adjustment of trousers. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of a socket shown at Figs. 3 and 4:.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
In its preferred embodiment the improved trousers-presser forming the subject-matter of this application comprises a back board 10, provided with an easel back, or pivoted brace-legs 11, by means of which the back board may be set up at any approved inclination. At its lower end the back board is provided with the hooked springs 12, which may be secured directly andpermanently to the board or adjustably by means of sockets. The sockets each comprise a plate 13, having one or more openings 1.4 for attaching the same to the board, said plate being provided with a lateral extension 15, having flanges or lips 16. Adjacent the plate 13 the flanges are connected by a cross-piece 17, having an opening 18 to engage a turned lug 19 upon the spring 12. At the end opposite the plate 13 the flanges 16 extend beyond the plate or extension and are provided with a cross piece 20 to engage the lug 19 when the spring is opened to allow the adjustment of trousers upon the backboard.
For association with the backboard a front board 21 is provided coinciding substantially in size to the back board and arranged to be disposed within the turned hooked ends of the springs 12. Upon the springs 12 are pivoted the clamping-levers 22, with cam-sections 23 positioned to engage and clamp upon the front board 21. At its upper end the back board is provided at each side with a notched latch 24, pivoted to the sides by the pins 25 and arranged to engage a curved resilient bar 26, pivoted in the middle of the front board. To prevent splitting and warping, the front and back boards are bound at each end by the metal strips 27 and 23, having their ends folded over the edges of the said boards to protect the corners and insure the desired finish and security. Between the front and back boards is a division-board 29, adapted to be introduced between the legs of the trousers 30 and proportioned to extend from the juncture to the bottom hem, stopping short of the lower ends of the front and back boards, as at 31. For convenience in handling the front or removable board a handle 32 is secured to the upper end and formed into a coat-hanger 33 and hat-support 34.
It will be understood that the front board may be disengaged from the back board, and While so removed the trousers will be arranged upon the back board with the division-board between the legs of said trousers. The front board is then put in place and the levers 22 moved to clamp the adjacent ends of the boards together, while the resilient bar 26 is engaged by the latches 24 to secure a yielding pressure at the opposite ends of the boards.
When the sockets are employed, the springs 12 will be turned back to the position shown at Fig. 4. while the front board is removed and being put in place. They are then returned to the position shown in Fig. 3 and the levers clamped, as above described. It will be obvious that the sockets and springs 12 may be applied to either or both ends of the boards and the bar 26 omitted.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is 1. In a trousers-presser, a back board having hooked springs at one end thereof, a front board proportioned for disposition Within the springs, clamps carried by the springs and adapted to engage the adjacent end of the front board, and means for yieldably clamping the boards together at their opposite ends.
2. In a trousers-presser, a back board provided at one end with laterally-turned hooked springs, notched latch members pivoted to the opposite end of the back board, a front board proportioned for disposition Within the hooked springs, clamping-levers pivoted to the springs and arranged to clamp the adjacent end of the front board, and a resilient bar pivoted to the front board and proportioned to engage the latches.
3. In a trousers -presser, a back board, hooked springs detachably secured to one end of and turned laterally of the back board, a front board proportioned to be disposed Within the hooks of the springs, clamping-levers pivoted to the springs and arranged to exert a yielding pressure upon one end of the front board, and means for yieldably clamping the opposite ends of the boards.
4. In a trousers presser, a back board, socket members secured to one end of the board, hooked springs adjustably disposed Within the sockets and turned laterally upon one side of the front board When in operative position, and extending beyond the end of the board, When out of operative position, a front board proportioned for disposition Within the springs, clamping-levers pivoted to the springs and arranged to exert a yieldable pressure upon one end of the board, and means for clamping the opposite ends of the boards.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
ROBERT P. KOONS.
