To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GODFREY DAWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Board, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ironing-boards, and has for its object to provide an improved support for interchangeably mounting a plurality of boards of different shapes and sizes upon a table and to facilitate the application of the support to the table and also the removal and application of the boards with re spect to the support.

With this and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings,and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, propor tion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an underneath perspective view of the present invention applied to a table, the latter being broken away. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the board with the support broken away at the top and bottom to show the connection between the support and the board and also between the support and the base. Fig. 3 is an end view of the device or support with the board removed. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the bracket which is attached to the board.

Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.

In carrying out the present invention there is provided a base in the form of a wooden or metallic block 1, from which rise the opposite standards or supports 2 and 3, that are of inverted substantially U shape. Each of these standards or supports consists of a single casting, the opposite ends of which have outwardly-directed perforate ears 4 for the reception of suitable fastenings 5, which are entered into the base, so as to connect the supports thereto. The upper cross-bar 6 of what will be designated as the forward support is flat and is provided with an intermediate upstanding stud or projection 7,while the cross-bar 8 of the rear support is round or cylindrical.

The base 1 is firmly clamped to one corner of a table 9 by means of a substantially U- shaped clamp-bracket 10, which embraces adjacent edge portions of the based and the table, the lower member of the clamp having a thumb-screw 11 to bind against the under side of the table.

It will be understood that it is designed to provide a plurality of boards for interchangeable engagement with a single support, one of these boards being illustrated at 12 and de signed to rest flat upon the cross-bars of the supporting-standards, the under side of the board being provided with a socket or seat 13 (shown in Fig. 2) for the reception of the stud or projection 7, so as to prevent lateral displacement of the board from the support.

For connecting the rear end of the board to the cross-bar of the rear support there is provided a flat plate-like bracket 14, which is connected to the under side of the board by means of a fastening 15, set through the bracket and into the board, and also a bolt 16, which is passed through the top of the board andthen through the bracket, the outer side of the latter having a socket or seat 17 for the snug reception of the nut 18 of the bolt. The head of the bolt is countersunk in the top of the board, so that the latter may be free from projections, and is also provided with a screw-driver groove for convenience in engaging the bolt with the nut that is held within the seat of the bracket. At the inner edge of the bracket there is provided a projecting tongue 19, that lies at the outer face of the bracket, so as to form a hook to engage beneath the cross-bar 8 from the under and outer side thereof, thereby forming a hinged connection between the board and the support, and upon which hinged connection the board is designed to be swung downwardly into engagement with the opposite support. As indicated in Fig. 3, the support 2 is narrower than the support 3, and the innor faces of the side members of the support 2 are provided with inwardly-directed shoulders 20 at the under side of the cross-bar, so

as to reduce the Width between the opposite sides to substantially the width of the tongue or hook of the hinge plate or bracket 14, whereby the latter is held against lateral movement.

What is claimed is- I 1. In an ironing-board, the combination of a base, a table-engaging clamp therefor, opposite upstanding and inverted Substantially U-shaped board-supports connected to the upper side of the base, one of the supports having an intermediate upstanding stud or projection rising from the top thereof, and the other support having its top in the-form of a substantially cylindrical cross-bar, a board to lie upon the tops of the supports, and provided in its under side with a socket or'seat for the snug and detachable reception of the stud or projection, and a hinge-bracket secured detachably to the under side of the board and having an inwardly-directed hook or tongue constructed to pivotally engage the cross-bar from the under and outer side thereof.

2. In an ironing-board, the combination of a base, opposite inverted substantially U shaped supports connected to the base, the top of one of the supports being flat and provided with an intermediate upstanding stud or projection, the other support having its top in the form of asubstantially cylindrical crossbar, a board, and a bracket detachably connected to the under side of the board, and provided with an'inwardly-directed tongue constructed for detachable hinged engagement with the cross-bar of said other support, the sides of the latter being constructed to form stops for preventing lateral movement of the bracket, there being a socket or seat provided upon the under side of the board for the reception of the stud or projection.
