T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, MORGAN L. RICH, of Sand Bank, in the county of Oswego, and State of New Yo'rk, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bins for Sugars, Teas, dto.; and I do hereby declare thatY the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which' will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a top view of my improved sugar-bins, part of the top being broken away to show the construction.
Figure is a vertical section of the same, taken through the line :e rv, iig. 1.
Similar letters of reference'indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction and arrangement of sugar-bins, so as to make them more convenient in use, the bins being arranged more compactlythan is possible when they arevconstruct'ed and arranged in the ordinary manner and it consists in arranging the bins around a central core in such a manner that the top of the bins may form a counter or stand for the scales, so that the said scales may be readily accessible from all the bins, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described. v
A are the bins, which are arranged around a central core, B, in such a manner that the' partitions, C, that separate said bins A, may radiate from said central core, as shown in tig. 1, givingto the bins'A the general form of truncated wedges. 1
The forward or outer sides ofthe bins A incline inward both towards the top and bottom. p The upper inclined part, al, which is much shorter than the lower inclined part, a2, forms the doors of the bins, and are hinged at their lower edges to the upper edges ot' the said lower parts a2, so that, when opened, .the said doors al may hang down along the said lower parts ai, and may thus belentirely out of the way.
The top, D, of the bins, which rests upon the top of the central core or post B, and upon the upper edges of the partitions C, which separate the bins A, forms a counter or table', to support the scales4 for weighing the sugar, so that the said scales may be equally accessible frein all the bins. p
When made for containing sugar, the bins A should be made so large as each to contain a barrel of sugar, and, when' designed for containing teas, they should be made so large as each to contain a chestr of tea.. In this latter case, the bins should be lined with sheet lead.
I am aware thatbins having inclinedsides and lids have been arranged along the walls of stores, `for 4the purpose of holding groceries, but, as this arrangement forms no part of my invention, Itherefore disclaim it; 'but What' I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is
The bin, constructed as described, consisting ot' the radial portions C, around the standard B, all enclosed within the case, having inclined sides a2 and hinged doors a?, the latter adapted to close against the edge ofthe top D, which forms a scale-support, as herein shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 11th day of April, 1868.
M. L. RICH.
