Be it' known that I, M. M. SMITH, of Nashville, in the county of Davidson. and State of Tennessee, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Ladders for Lamp-Lightersg and I (lo hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which willV enable others skilled in the artto make and use the sume, refer-ence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a. part of this specification,

The object ol' this invention `is to provide a. simple, portable, andi-effective step-ladder for the use of lamp-` lighters.

It consist-s of a. shank, d, provided with horns, a a, for claspng on the Atapering part of a lamp-post, as usually made, and steps A and e.

The step A is aflixed to extensions, 6 b, forming part ofthe horns a a.

The step e is allxed to the horizontal part ofthe shank d. l

To use this step-ladder, the horns are set on the lamp-post B, which, as 'usually made, increase in cireumference from' the top down. The lweight ofthe person on it causes it to settle rmly toa. secureihold.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Putents A step-ladder for lamp-posts, constructed substantially es and for the purpose shown und described.
