Description

IMPROVEMENT IN W'ASH-BOILES L @the tlyetule reirmt tu in ttm 3mm @that mit mating parl si it: sume.
'TO ALL WHOM IT-MAY GONCRN:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH OxELof Indianapolis, in the county of Marion, and in the State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Wash-Boiler; and I do. hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The nature of the invention consists in the construction ,and use of the device hereinafter described; said device to be made of copper, tin, or any other convenient audsuitable' sheet metal.
To' enable others skilled inthe art'to make and use my said invention, I proceed to describe it more fully.
Figure No. 1 of the accompanying drawings is a perspective view of the said boiler.
Figure No. 2,an end view of it.
Figure No. 3, an interior view.
Figure No. 4, the inside lid, hereinafter described.
Figure No. 5, the lid itself.
Figure No. 6, another view of the inside of the boiler.v
In the lower part of an ordinary wash-boiler is fastened an inside bottom, shaped in the forni of a segment of a. cylinder, consisting of three pieces, the two end-pieces being soldered fast to the boiler,l while the middle piece, m 'm of gs. 3 and 4, a, fig. 6, which is 'provided with the slotsrh, h', h", and z", and attached at one end by the hinge g g, is free to be raised and pushed down as a door ;I this bottom being in the position represented by m m of fig. 2, and M M of g. 3, and represented as open by m m of said fig. 6.
On each end of the boiler is soldered a ehamber, represented by K K of gs. 1, 2, and 6, which is connected with the chamber formed bythe bottom .and m in.; by means pf convenient holes perforated iu part of the side of the boiler between them..
These chambers K and. K are connected with any convenient lnumber of tubes, represented by d d', e e', ff', which, passing upward, maken curve at the top, so as to enter the boiler just below the handled if of said iig.- The lid represented by iig. 5 is p rovided with exit-valves, which are covered with hingedlids at a and a.`
'To use my said invention, a convenient quantity of soap is put into the chamber formed by the bottom and m m, the lid m mis then close d, and water put in until it stands about two or three inches above the cylindrical bottom m m.
The clothes to be Washed are nozw put in, and the lid A B closed. -When heat is applied it will befonnd that a current of water will ilow upward through the tubes d d', e e', and ff', into the top lof the boiler, down through the clothes into the chamber formed by m m through the slots It, h', It", and h, outward into the chambers K K, and upward into the tubes d d', e e', and ff', so forming a complete circulation of the soap and water,'which will continue to tlcw as long as the heat continues. The pressure of the'water and `steam in the. -ehamher formed by m m being behind that in the chamber K K, wiil act as a valve upon it, -and so not only facilitate the operationv of the device, but'al'so prevent any 1regurgitation of the water. This circulation of the water, it is claimed, will wash the clothes' so clean that the operator need onlyto rinse and wring them after' they come out of the boiler.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is#- The door m m, when constructed with -slotted sides, in combination with the chambers K K and pipes d,`e, andf, substantially in the manner described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing speci'ii'cation, I have hereunto set my hand, this 29th day of June, 1868. v
