HOLDER AND HANDLE FOR SAFETY-RAZQRS- Specification of Letters Patent.

To a whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OHARLEs L. HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing in Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Holder and Handle for Safety-Razor Blades, of which the following is a specification.
In the use of safety-razors it is found to be very difficult to properly strap or sharpen the blade, owing to the small size of the blade and its lack of a suitable handle whereby it may be firmly held during the process of sharpenmg.
My invention has for its object to provide a holder and handle whereby the safety-razor blade may be firmly held while it is being sharpened or strapped and, if desired, until it is needed again for shaving purposes.
The nature of the invention is fully described below and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of my improved holder and handle with the blade of a safety-razor in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the tang removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder removed. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the blade of a safety-razor.

a represents a handle or haft similar to the handle of an ordinary razor.
6 represents the tang or shank. This tang is located with relation to the handle like the tang of an ordinary razor; but it has no razor-blade extending from it and is provided with a shoulder 0 approximately midway of its length, whereby the outer end all is smaller in diameter than the portion 6. Both the portions Z) and d are preferably rounded or convex in cross-section on their tops, while their sides are preferably concave, the side 6 of the portion d being brought to approximately an edge at the bottom.
' The holder consists of a piece of spring metal which is of a suitable shape to be slipped endwise over and along the portion 0? of the tang and against the shoulder 0, the thickness of the metal of which the holder is constructed being about the same as the depth of the shoulder. The shape of the holder corresponds with that of the portion 03, its top 9 being convexo-concave in cross-section and the sides h converging toward their lower ends and being concavo-convex in cross-section. This holder is therefore of proper shape to embrace and hold the upper portion of the blade is of a safety-razor, and it is of suitable length to embrace the portion cl of the tang and accommodate the safety-razor blade beyond the end of said tang or shank, as illustrated in Fig. 1, in which the end of the blade abuts against the outer end of the portion d of the tang.
When the blade 7:: is to be sharpened or strapped, it is pushed into the outer end of the holder g h against the outer end of the tang, as indicated in Fig. 1, and can then be easily sharpened or strapped by holding the handle a in the same manner that it is held when an ordinary razor is sharpened or strapped. The razor may then be closed, the blade is extending into the handle or haft, and the parts may remain in that position until the blade is needed again for use as a part of a safetyrazor.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, a holder and handle for safety-razor blades, comprising a razor-handle of the style constructed to receive the blade of an ordinary razor; a tang hinged in the ordinary manner to the razor-handle, and a holder extending from the tang and adapted to receive and hold a safety-razor blade.
2. A razor-handle; a tang connected with and extending therefrom and comprising the portion 6 and the outer portion d smaller in thickness than said portion 6; and a hollow holder adapted to embrace and clamp said portion d of the tang, said holder being of suitable shape to receive and hold the upper or thick edge of a safety-razor blade, for the purpose set forth.
