To all whom it may concern! Be it known that I, J ACOB W. FENNEL,a citizen of the United States, residing at J ohnstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shelf-Supports; and I do declare the following to beafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in shelf-supports.

The object of the invention is. to provide a shelf-support which maybe quickly and easily hung upon a wall and which may be readily adjusted to difierent heights.

A further object is to provide a shelf-support which will be simple, strong, and durable in construction and which may be attached to the picture-rod on a wall to support said shelf, means being provided whereby the shelf may be firmly secured to the wall after being adjusted to the desired position.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a shelf-support constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the same supported .upon a wall. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view taken through the shelf of the bracket. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View through one of the brackets, the ends of the shelf, and a portion of the bracket-support; and Fig. 4 is a rear view of the shelf.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the bracket-support, which is here shown as a depending rod, on the upper end of which is formed a hook 2, by which said rod is adapted to be engaged with the picture rod or molding on the wall. Arranged on the rod 1 is a bracket 3, which consists of a right-angularly-projecting horizontally-disposed bar 4:, on the outer end of which is integrally formed or connected the curved brace-bar 5. The inner ends of the bars 4 and 5 are provided with apertures through which the rod 1 is adapted to project and by which means the bracket 3 is slidably connected to said rod. In the lower, end of the brace-bar 5 is formed a horizontally-disposed threaded aperture 6, through which is adapted to be screwed a set-screw 7, the inner end of which is engaged with the supporting-rod 1 to support the bracket 3 at any desired position on said rod.

In using the device two or more of the same are employed, the bracket 3 on each of the supporting-rods of which is arranged at the' same position thereon, and on said brackets is arranged a shelf 8. In the outer ends of the shelf 8 are formed vertically-disposed apertur'es, through which are adapted to be inserted screws or similar securing devices 9, which are screwed into threaded apertures 10, formed in the cross-bar 4 of the bracket, thereby firmly securing said shelf to the brackets. In order thatthe shelf may be more firmly held in position, a depending centrally-disposed plate 12 is secured to the rear edgeof the same, and in the lower end of said plate is formed an aperture 13, through which is adapted to be inserted a nail or screw 14:, which is driven into the wall, thereby firmly securing the shelf in place.

A shelf arranged and supported as herein shown and described may be easily and quickly hung up or supported at any suitable position on the wall and may be readily adjusted to the desired height.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without re- ,quiring a more extended explanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a shelf-support, the combination with depending supporting-rods, each having at its upper end a hook 2, of the right-angularlyprojecting brackets 4, 5 slidably mounted on said rods, set-screws to hold said brackets in adjusted position on said rods, a shelf 8 sup ported on said brackets, screws to secure said shelf to the brackets, and a depending plate 12 secured to said shelf and provided with an aperture 13 for a fastening 14, whereby the shelf and support may be secured to the wall, substantially as described.
