UNITEB STATES PATENT @FFICE.
GEORGE W. MERTZ, OF NORTH FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
BRACKET.
Application filed October 7, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE V. Menu, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Fort l/Vorth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to new and useful improven'ients in a bracket and one of its objects is the provision of a device of this character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide a vertical standard having a resilient clamp thereon for receiving and holding toilet articles or the like and having means for securing the standard to a wall or supporting structure for supporting the article in convenient reach of the user.
A further object of this invention is to provide transverse bars secured to each edge of the standard and each consisting of aplurality of hinged sections, whereby the standard may be either secured to a wall or in the corner of adjoining walls.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the descrip tion proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my in vention, reference is to be had to the fol lowing description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front elevation of a bracket, constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1 illustrating the device secured to a wall,
Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating the bracket secured to adjoining walls, and
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view illustrating the means of securing clamps and transverse bars to the vertical standard.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 124,326.
numeral 1 indicates a vertical standard having its lower end bent at right angles toform an attaching foot 2 which has bolted or otherwise secured thereto a circular disk 3 for forming a support for the base of an article supported by the vertical standard, which will be hereinafter more fully described.
A pair of resilient clamps at are bolted or otherwise secured to the standard 1 in spaced relation to each other for receiving and gripping toilet articles or the like whereby the toilet articles or like received by the clamps 4 may be supported at the lower end thereof by the disk or plate 3.
Secured to the standard 1 adjacent its upper and lower ends are transverse bars 5 each consisting of a central section 6 and movable section 7 hinged to each end of the central section 6 and having apertures 8 therein for receiving screws or other like fasteners for securing the movable sections to a wall.
In operation, the movable sections 7 of the transverse bars may be screwed or fastened to the wall as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 for rigidly securing the vertical standard thereto. When desiring to secure the transverse bars to adjoining walls so as to place the device within the corner of a room, the movable sections 7 are swung at an angle to the central section and the movable sections are secured to the walls allowing the central section to expand the corner be tween the walls as, clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 thus providing means whereby the device may readily be secured in a corner of the room.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A bracket comprising a vertical standard, a supporting plate secured to the standard, resilient clamps secured to the standard for receiving and supporting an article upon the plate, transverse bars secured 'to the upper and lower ends of the vertical standard and each consisting of a central section and a pair of movabie'sections hinged to each end of the central section whereby the device may be secured to a Wall or in the corner of a pair of adjoining Walls.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
GEORGE W. MERTZ. \Vitnesses J. L. SANDERS, C. T. SADDLESON.
