IMPROVED BUCKLE.
' fitte, Stigettle referierte-iu ttm tttier ttnrt mit ntttingpttt nf its stmt.
ToALI. WIIoM Ir MAY co'NcERN:
Be it known that` I, L. D. COWLES, of Romeo, in the county of Macomb, and in the'State of Michigan,I have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; andtlohereby .declare that the following is a full clear, und oxact deseription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreierence marked thereon.
'l he nature of my invention consists in the construction ofja simple and cheap, and at the same:V time sub- .stantial buckle, adapted to almost any purpose where a buckle is wanted, and in the manner by which the sam/e closes and takes hold ofthe strap. V
In order to enable othersf'skilled in the art'to make and usemy invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form'apart of this specification, and in which- 4 Figure 1 is a plan view,
Figure 2 a side view, and
Figure 3 a plan view of the inside frame. Y y
' A represents an oblong metal frame, the longer sides of which-are bent orvrounded, so that theend-plates or bars are higher than the centre of thc frame. Near one'end of this fra/Ine is a cross-har, on which a strap is fastened. I' Y I Another frame, B, is made of similar shape to the frame A, but'ot' such size as to work inside of'it.'
This frame is providedwitli one or more cross-bars a d in its'centre, and a lug,A C, on each side, projecting therefrom, which'lugs rest on the upper edge ofthe side-bars on the frame A.
After the frame B is placed inside'oi' the frame A, the strap is put'in under the end-bars of the two frames, over the cross-bars a a,`and `under the other end-bars of said frames. By then pulling on this strap, and on the one fastened to the' frame A, this frame will -slide under the lugs() C until the end-barof the'saine closes' tightly on the strap, and-holds it firmly at the centre ofthe buckle. Y
The frames A4 and B may .be made of any suitable form or shape desired. Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim asnow, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The lugs C C, on the sides ofthe frame4 B, in combination with the frame A, having inclined edges, whereby the ondbars of the two franies are made to hold thestrap, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 18th`day of June, `1868.
