Description
BENJAMIN F. ERATTAIN, oF-.NOBLESVILLE,INDIANA.
Lenen Patent No. 80,052, ma J'uzy 21, 186s.
IMPEovEMENT l1M.l PORTABLE EENcE.
@its rhetnlg rifarsi in itat what utmt animating part if its stmt.
TO ALLWHOM IT MAY CQNCERN:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F, Beernem, of Noblesville, in the contyjof Hamilton, and inthe State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Portable Fence; and I vdo hereby declarev that the following is a fu'll, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beingfhad 1to the accompanying drawings, and letters and gures of refereneemiarked thereon. 1
The nature :of the invention consists in-the use of a `yoke, for fthe purpose of locking thepanels of fence together, in Asnella way thatfthe said yoke at'once is a key and `a hinge, and each panel of the fence is thereby l arranged so that it can be used as agater said yoke t'o be made of-wood or any other suitable material.
To enable others skilled inthe art tofxnakeiand use my said invention@ proceed to describeit more fully, as follows: A j
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is' a front view of the said yoke.v
Figure2 a back view of the sanie. y
Figures 3 an'dl' are perspective views, showing the fence in position.
E EEE of lig. 4 are intended to represent the notches into which the said yoke fits.
A D of figs. Nos. land 2 of the accompanying drawings represents the s aid yoke, which is to be con'- structed in manner and formas there represented, with the V-slots B and C. 'The panel of fence 'for which it isused-is represent'ed`by figs'. 3 and 4'of the accompanying drawings.
To use the said yoke, the panels areiirst s et up in such `a wayas to form a worm-fence, the yoke is then put in so that the slot E will reach over one plank of cach panel, and the yoke itself will rest in the notches E and E provided for it, and the slots'B and C will rest against the upright posts, in manner andfoim as represented, respcctively, by their appropriate letters in scid Nos.. 3 and 4. i
When the yokes are taken out of one'end of a panel and loosened in the other end of the same panel, the yokes will, by reason-of their peculiar shape, allow the loose-panel to swing around the arc of a circle, as'represented by H I K of said No. 4, until it,rest's against the adjacent panel,l as represented by the outline W X A Z. This convertsl the panel into'open gate. When vit is desirable to close 1t, theipanel is drawn or swung back toits original place, and there made fast with the yokes. As the whole fence is alike, anypanel may be in this way instantly converted into a gate.
What I claim, and'desire toscanreby VLetters Patent, is i E The yoke herein described, when the saine is construct-ed as. aforesaid, in combination with a panel of tence, the rails of which are notched, as describedand for the purposesp'eciiied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing specification, I 'have-hereunto set my hand and seal, this 28th day of September, 1867.
' BENJAMIN I". BRATTAIN. [L
