Description

J. CHEIN.
TOY BRIDGE APPLICATION FILED Nov. 29, 1916.
Patented Dec. 4, 191 Y.
JULIUS CI-IEIN, OF MONTCLAIR, NEW JERSEY.
TOY BRIDGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. It, MM?.
Application led November 29, 1916. Serial No. 134,001.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JULIUs GHEIN, a citi-v zen of the United States, residing at Montclair, in the county of Essex, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Bridges, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toy bridges and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and instructive toy.
l accomplish this object by the device illustrated in the accompaniyng drawings in whieh- Figure l is a view of the device assembled.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a section of the same on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4l is a. view of the truss and cross bar, and
Fig. 5 is a detail. of the engaging slot and bed.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My improved device comprises a bed l, upon which may be provided a representation of rail-road tracks and ties The end sections 3 and 4 of the bed l may be inclined to represent the approaches to the bridge.
ln the marginal edge sections of the bed 1, l provide a plurality et bent over lugs 5, 5 and a raised bead 6. The trusses 7 and of the bridge are preferablyT stamped out of sheet metal and are provided on their lower sides with bent over edge sections 7 and 8 respectively to engage the lugs 5, 5 on the bed of the bridge.
ln the upper edge sections of the trusses 7 and 8 I provide apertures 72 72 and 82 82 to receive the cross braces 9 and 10.
The device is assembled by placing the trusses 7 and 8 on the bed l with their bent over edge sections 7 and 8 under the lugs 5 and their outer faces against the beads 6 whereby they will be securely held in position on the bed l. The cross braces 9 and l0 are then inserted in the apertures 72 and 82 respectively in the trusses 7 and 8 and it' desired the end sections of said cross braces may be bent down against the outer tace of the trusses 7 and 8 whereby the parts will be bound in position.
F or the purpose of giving the device the appearance of solidity, the edge sections of the parts may be bent over and decorated. As will be apparent 1from the foregoing description, the device may be readily and easily assembled and knocked down as desired for economy of space for storing or transportation.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising a bed section, a marginal bead and lugs thereon, a plurality of trusses having bent over edge sections adapted to engage the lugs and resting within the said bead and cross braces between the trusses substantially as shown and described.
2. A device of the character described comprising a bed section, lugs thereon, a plurality of trusses having bent over edge sections adapted to engage the lugs and cross braces between the `trusses substantially as shown and described.
3. A device of the character described comprising a bed section, lugs thereon, a plurality of trusses adapted to engage the lugs and cross braces between the trusses substantially as shown and described.
et. A device of the character described comprising a bed section, a plurality of trusses mounted on the bed section, lugs adapted to bind together the bed section and trusses and cross braces between the trusses substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof, JULiUs Cit-min has signed his name to this specication in the presence oit two subscribing witnesses, this 18th day of November, 1916.
W. C. PEAnsoN, E. O. FARNswoR'rH.
@oplos of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
