To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boyne City, in the county of Charlevoix and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved bed and the principal object of the invention is to provide an improved means for mounting the bed so that the bed may be rotated in order to permit the floor beneath the bed to be easily swept, and to also so mount the bed that the bed may be tilted at any desired angle.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved standard for supporting the bed and to so construct this standard that the bed may be easily moved from one part of the room to another.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this bed that the various parts of the support for the bed may be easily taken apart for the purpose of oiling the same.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bed; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the support for the bed; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 1 is a sectional view taken along the line l4 of Fig. 3.

The support or standard 10 is provided with legs 11 in the lower ends of which are mounted casters 12. This bed can therefore be very easily moved across a room from one place to another. In the upper end of the standard there is provided a socket 13 which is circular in cross section so that the bearing 1 may have its shank 15 rotatably mounted in the socket 13. Ears 16 extend upwardly from the body portion of the bearing 14 and are provided with alined openings through which the pivot pin 17 passes.

The disk 18 is rotatably mounted upon the pin 17 between the ears 16 and is provided with an opening through which the key 19 may pass in order to hold the disk in a desired position between the cars 16. This key 19 also passes through a selected set of openings 20 which are formed in the ears 16, and it will thus be seen that by withdrawing the key 19 and turning the disk. and then replacing the key, the disk will be rigidly held in the adjusted position. In the drawings there has been shown a single key 19 but it is obvious that a plurality of keys may be provided so that the disk Will be securely held in place. Rods or bars 21 extend divergently from the disk 18 and have their outer end portions bent upwardly to form the corner posts 22 of the bed. The side rails 23 upon which the spring and mattress rest are carried by the bars 21 with their ends engaging the corner posts 22. From an inspection of Fig. 1 it will be readily seen that the bars 21 are inclined and will thus form resilient supports which will take up undue strain which may be placed upon the bars. It is of course obvious that in order to permit the bars to take up the strain, the bars may be formed of resilient material such as spring metal or the like.

When this bed is in use, the bed may be held level as shown in full lilies in Fig. 1, or if desired may be tilted in either direction as indicated by the dotted lines in this figure. l/Vhen treating-some diseases, it is necessary to have the bed tilted with one end higher than the other and therefore the disk 18 has been rotatably mounted between the cars 16 to permit this. By having the bearing 14 rotatably supported by the standard 10, the bed can be turned in any direction desired in order to have the face or back to the light and also in order to permit the floor beneath the bed to be easily swept without it being necessary to move the bed from the desired position in the room. 1 have therefore provided a bed which is so constructed that it may be angularly adjusted and which is also so constructed that it may swing upon a pivot for any purpose desired. It will also be noted that with this construction the bed may be easily moved from one place in the room to another, this being due to the fact that the casters 12 are positioned relatively close to each other, thus making it easy to move the bed along the floor.

What is claimed is:

1. In a bed of the character described a standard provided with a socket leading from its upper end, a bearing carried by said standard and provided with a shank rotatably mounted in said socket, ears extending upwardly from said bearing in spaced relation, a disk rotatably mounted between said ears, means for releasably holding said disk in an adjusted position, arms extending from said disk in diverging relation at an upward incline and having their end portions bent to form the corner posts of a bed, and side rails carried by said bars and em gaging the same at the lower ends of said corner posts.

2. In a bed of the character described a standard, a bearing rotatably connected with said standard and provided with ears positioned in spaced relation, a disk rotatably mounted between said ears, means for releasably securing said disk in an adjusted position, bars extending from said disk and having their end portions bent to form corner posts, and rails carried by said bars and engaging the same at the lower ends of said corner posts.

3. A bed of the character described c0mprising a support, a bearing rotatably carried by said support, a disk rotatably car ried by said bearing, means for holding said disk in an adjusted position, bars extending from said disk and having their end portions bent to form corner posts, and rails carried by said bars.

4. A bed of the character described comprising a support, a bearing carried by said support, ears forming part of said bearing and provided with alined openings, a disk rotatably mounted between said ears and provided with an opening, means passing through the opening of said disk and through a selected set of openings in said ears to releasably hold said disks in an adjusted position, bars extending from said disks and having their end portions bent to form corner posts, and rails carried by said bars.
