STOVE-LEG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1920.
Application filed July 6, 1917. Serial No. 178,988.
To all who m it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Lu ELLA BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sutherland, in the county of Prairie and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Legs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stove legs, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a stove leg of such construction that it can be easily and conveniently cleaned to be kept in a sanitary condition.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a stove leg including a novel form of supporting base that is adapted to have a caster associated therewith.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a stove, showing the same equipped with a pair of supporting legs constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through one supporting leg detached from.
operative position,
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the supporting leg detached from operative position,
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the upper end of the supporting leg, showing the preferred form of attaching flange therer,
Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view, taken through the lower end of the supporting leg, and showing the same equipped with means for holding the roller of the caster against movement Fig. 6 is a transverse section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 3,
Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of the upper end of the stove leg, showing the same applied with a modified form of attaching flange.
Referring to the drawings in detall, the letter A designates a stove, of ordinary construction, which is supported by means of a plurality of supporting legs 1 constructed in accordance with my invention. The supporting legs are identical in construction,
hence a description of one will suffice for all. Each leg consists of an arcuate shaped body portion 2, the upper end of which has associated therewith a laterally extending flange 3, which may be in the form shown in Fig. i, so as to lit between a pair of lugs 4, as shown in Fig. 1, or the flange may be of rectangular shape, as shown in Fig. 7 and connected to the bottom of the stove body by bolts adapted to pass through openings 5 in the flange and be received by openings in the stove bottom. The lower end of the body portion of the stove leg has an enlarged and hollow supporting base 6, which is substantially triangular shaped in vertical section, as shown in Fig. 2. The base (3 is adapted to rest on the floor, or other support, when the leg is in operative position.
When it is desired to move the stove from one place to another, the stove is raised so as to admit of casters being placed beneath the base portions 6 of the stove legs. Each of these casters include a threaded shank 7, which is adapted to be received by an opening in the lower side of the base of one of the legs, and a bracket 8 is carried by the lower end of the shank 7 and which has a roller 9 journaled therein. lVhen the legs are equipped with the casters, the stove can be easily moved about the floor or other support and positioned at any point desired. When the stove has been placed at the particular point on the support or floor, the casters can be detached from the stove legs so as to admit of the base portions 6 of the legs engaging the floor or other support. The caster may be permanently associated with the leg and the roller 9 held against rotation by a pin 10. The pin 10 is carried by a depending arm 11 which is pivotally mounted on the supporting base (3, the pin 10 being adapted. to engage the roller, as shown in Fig. 5.
It will be seen that a stove leg constructed in the manner above described can be easily and conveniently cleaned and kept in a sanitary condition.
It is evident that various changes might be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
A stove leg comprising an inclined body portion of arcuate form in cross section, a
carried by said supporting base, a caster mounted in said bracket, anrarin pivotally mounted on said supporting base; and a pin carriedby said arm and adapted to engage 10 said caster to prevent rotation thereof.
- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presenee of two Witnesses.
