3 I wantow UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27, 1906.
Application filed May 26, 1905. Serial No. 262,360.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY LANDIS, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Wayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Leg Casters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in stove-leg casters; and the object of my invention is the provision of a device which can be applied to the legs of any stove in use or,
which may be applied to the legs of a stove at the factory at the time of manufacture of the stoves at a very small expense, and which will enable a stove to be moved or slid along the floor with ease and facility, and which when the stove has been properly set or placed can be swung out of position and be concealed in the legs of the stove.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a stove-leg caster which will be of ornamental and attractive appearance, which will be strong and durable in construction to withstand the heavy weight and hard usage, and which will be thoroughly efficient and er1- tirely practical in every particular.
With these objects in view my invention consists of a stove -leg caster embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that the detail construction and the operation of my caster may be fully understood and its many advantages be fully appreciated, I invite attention to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a stovecaster constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention.
Figure 1 represents avertical sectional viewof the leg of a stove-with my caster in position for use, the caster and parts being illustrated in side elevation and in dotted lines, the position of the caster being shown when out of use or when the stove is set. Fig. 2 represents a rear elevation of the caster with parts broken away to show details of construction, and Fig. 3 represents a vertical central sectional view of the caster and connected parts.
In the drawings the letter A designates a stove-leg of the usual common form or shape to the rear face of which is connected the bracket B, provided with a slot 0, through which passes the headed adjusting-screw D, upon which fits the winged adjusting-nut E, which serves to clamp the plate F with the rib G in any of the teeth II on the slotted arm or link J and from this construction it will be observed that the slotted arm or link receives the adjusting-bolt and that the plate has the rib thereon engage the teeth of said link for the purpose of securing the slotted link in the raised position, as shown in dotted lines, or in the normal position, as shown in full lines, in the three views of the drawings.
The lower end of the slotted link is shouldered or recessed at K to receive the extension L on the leg-supporting platform or rest M, the parts being connected by the screw N and the foot-rest or platform being provided with the ears O, which embrace the leg.
From the lower side of the foot-rest depends the socket or threaded boss P, to which is swiveled, by means of the pin Q, the rightangled-shaped caster frame or bracket R, which has the pintle S, upon which the rollers T are mounted. The angled-shaped casterframe is provided in its vertical portion with a seat U, in which is mounted the roller V, having the journals V, which bear in the caster-frame, and from this construction it will be seen that the leg is properly supported and that the caster-frame can be moved or revolved, which permits the stove to be easily slid or moved over the floor, and when in the proper place it is simply necessary to throw the frame with caster out of use to the position shown in dotted lines.
It will be understood that my device can be applied or attached at a very small expense to the stoves when they are manufactured, or they can be applied to the legs of stoves in common and general use, and that the casters enable the stoves to be moved with ease and with the expenditure of little labor and also that the device possesses great strength and durability. It will also be understood that my device will be particularly useful for use upon stoves in stores or for eX- hibition purposes, permitting an easy handling of the stoves and being an ornament in addition to being a useful attachment.
I claim- 1. In combination with a stove-leg provided with an inwardly-extending slotted bracket, the slotted link adapted to cooperate with and be secured to said slotted bracket, the leg-supporting platform pivoted to said link, said platform having ears adapted to embrace the foot of the stove-leg, the caster-frame carrying rollers and pivoted to said platform, and a roller journaled in said caster-frame and bearing against the platform.
2. In combination with a stove-leg provided with an inwardly-extending slotted bracket, the slotted link having the leg-supporting platform pivoted thereto, the screw passing through and securing said slotted link and bracket, said platform having ears adapted to embrace the foot of the stove-leg, the caster-frame carrying rollers and pivoted to said platform, and a roller journaled in said caster-frame and bearing against the platform.
3. In combination with a stove-leg provided with an inwardlyextending slotted bracket carrying a plate provided with a rib, the slotted link having teeth adapted to be engaged by said rib, the leg-supporting platform pivoted to said link, the caster-frame HARRY LANDIS.
