Description

C. B. SHELDON.
Stools. N0. 141,391, Patentedjuly 29,1873.
B jfw fr//g/) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CEVEDRA B. SHELDON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,391, dated July 29, 1873 g application filed June 17, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OEVEDEA B. SHELDON, of New York, in the county of New York and State ot' New York, have invented a new and Improved Stool and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the4 accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the seat and its support partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthe journal-plate with its frictionrollers. l
rlhe invention relates to store, piano, or other stools; and consists in a ring constructed with journals that are arranged at intervals, and provided with friction-wheels that rotate in a groove in the top of the standard.
In the drawing, A represents the socketed stand of a stool, and B the seat thereof, provided With the pendant C. The latter has near the end a circular cavity, c, which receives a spring, D, whereby the seat is allowed to turn, but prevented from rising out of its place. The spring being automatic is greatly preferable to screws which all require to be manipulated. E is a circular extension at the top of stand, having the inner groove e in which are placed anti-friction wheels F. K is a ring, provided with four (more or less) journals, k, on which are journaled the friction- Wheels L. As the journals subserve the purpose of holding the Wheels not only in their true relative position within the groove, but also to prevent them from rising and escaping, a cap may be dispensed with entirely.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ring K provided with journals 7c and friction-Wheels L, arranged between seat and stand, as and for the purpose set forth.
