Description

LLOYD E. THRUNE, F COON VALLEY, WISCONSIN.
MILKING-STOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1911?,
Application filed December 28, 1914. Serial No. 879,374.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, LLOYD E. THRUNE, a
' citizen of the United States, residing at Coon Valley, in the county of Vernon and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in MilkingStools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in rntion, such as will enable others skilled in th: art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to milking stools, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a milking stool which may be removably supported upon a pipe standard, or other support adjacent to a stall in a stable.
Another object of the invention is to provide a milking stool which may be removably connected to a standard, and which may be adjusted to varying heights for use by different persons, and which be swung in any position around the standard or support.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which The figure of the drawing shows an clevation and partial section of a milking stool made in accordance with this invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a pipe, a rod, or similar standard or supportat the side of a stall in a stable, and supported removably on said standard 1 is a bracket comprising a base yoke or U- shaped member 2 secured to an inclined brace member 3, which is bent upon itself in the form of a U at 4 and provided with a horizontal member 5, said horizontal member being twisted to form a hook 6 at right angles to the arm 5. A brace 7 is secured to the inclined member 3 and to the horizontal arm 5.
The seat 8 may be formed of wood or similar material, and a threaded bolt 9 extends through the seat and the head 10 of the bolt is countersunk and lies flush with the upper surface of the seat. A metal bushing 11 is seated in the aperture through the seat in which the screw 9 is inserted, and a washer 12 underneath the seat 8 is utilized as a seat for the nut 13 which secures the seat to the bolt 9. The threaded portion 1 1 of the bolt extends through coincident apertures in the members L and 5, and an adjusting nut 15 is held on the threaded shank of the bolt by means of a lock nut 16. The seat 8 may be turned to adjust itself verti cally to any required height to accommodate persons of different sizes, and the seat may be swung around the standard 1 to any position desired.
Then it is desired to remove the seat from the standard 1, the hook 6 is released by pushing the seat backward and the Ushaped yoke 2 may be then readily removed from the standard.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is A milking stool comprising a bracket formed of fiat sheet metal bent intermediate its ends to provide a pair of spaced superposed horizontally extending supporting arms, the outer end of the upper arm being twisted at rightangles and defining a hook, the lower arm being inclined downwardly, and outwardly adjacent its connected portion and having its extreme lower end arranged in a vertical plane, a substantially U-shaped supporting member secured by its web to the vertical portion of the lower arm and adapted to cooperate with the hook of the upper arm for removably supporting the bracket to a post, said horizontally extending portions of each of the arms provided with alined screw threaded openings, a screw threaded shank, a seat rotatably mounted about the head of said shank, the lower threaded portion of the shank adjustably fitted in the openings of the arms, means carried by the shank to hold the seat at a spaced distance from the arms and means to hold the shank in various adjusted positions within the openings of the arms of the bracket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LLOYD E. THRUNE.
