Application led February 1, 1912. Serial No. 674,816.
.vices foi Shiftin Articles Through a Narrow Doorway, o which the following is a ,"My invention relates to a device which is 'placed'in 'a door- Way and upon which may be mounted a dresser, stove, 4bed or other piece of furniture which remains thereon. to
be shifted back andA` forth for use in certain l .doorway of a minimum width; third, to
providea device ofb this character which requires little care in operating it so that by merely shoving on the article, the device Wit-h these and other objects in view as will appear, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described in detail andparticularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings an'd to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this specification,
"device 1n position when moving fromvone room to the other. n
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The bearings 1 and 2, supports 3 and4, d
connection piece 5, bars 6, 7, 8 and 9, stops 10 and 11, spring 12 and post 13 constitute the principal parts of my device.
The bearing 1 isl attached at a suitabl height to the side of the door casing approximately at the middle. The bearing 2 is a` thrust bearing preferably a ball-bearing and is mounted on the fioor directly below bearing 1. In these bearing pieces 1 and 2 is mounted a post 13, upon which are rigidly mounted supports 3 and 4. TheseV supports 3 and 4 are adapted to swing with said post in said bearings. Upon the extended end of said support 4 is mounted connection piece 5, which is preferably made of angle iron, and which is provided with screws adapted for the attachment to it of any article which it is desired to shift. The support 3 is attached to the article to be shifted near its upper edge by means of a U- shaped piece 3a, ivotally mountedl on the extended end of t e support 3, and its ends.
with the extended end of said bar 6 is bar 'licor at the proper point to provide the .propershift are also stops l() and 11, which extend up from the fioor a sufficient distance to engage respectively with the bars 7 and f 8, when they are in certain relative positions when the device is shifted. The
spring 12 is rigidly attached `to connection l piece 5 and is adapted to engage with bar 7 and support 4 when they are in certain relative positions to said connection piece 5, and to engage with'bar 9 when the' conne'ction piece 5 is swung to the outside of the aperture. Itis for the purpose of holding bars 6, 7, and 9 in'such a relative posiioo ave shown and described a invention, the construction and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims. f
It will be readily seen that with vided a device to which articlesl of furniture the dei vice as shown and described, there is prof and the like may he permanently attached so i that the-construction of the device 'rovi es E for the shifting of thearticle edgew1se, as` it passes through .the aert1'ire' or doorway, l
thus mowing a to be o' annimmt Winni;
that the device is simple feonstructin andV easily installed nd perated.
Having thus' escri 'edm invention, what I claim as new and desire secure hy Letters atent iszl 1. in @damnation wat a wan-ii laag 'as opening, a bed of greater width t ar'rs'aid increase its supporting surface,
vertica axis arranged adjacent to one side openin attached to a transversely movable opening and maintains Bet-teen of sai the sides of thence.
a in come' aten with a aan Hana-gaa opening, a tied cbml rising a rt attached to a 4transversely m raffle ver icall :trrhgedjadjaeent tonne siffle of said opening' and intermediate between uw Sides of the bea 4and a @curp-sistema adapted to gaat@ upward upon 'a horizontal anis.
3. Iii combination with a'wll opening, a hed of great rwidt opening, adapted to he oldcd to a vertical having' Ian zposition having a pitotal support at one side of said opening by trmtsverselyv mori able pivots located sufliciently near the central vertical axis of the head of the bed to permit the bed to swing horizontally there! through Whengfold'e'd. el. A device Afor facilitating the shifting of articles through a narrow aperture coin ris@ in a post pivotlly mounted to one siv e of said aperture, supports mounted on Vsaid post near the top and bottom, a supportiner har mounted on one of said supports adapted to means on the other support adapted to facilitate the connection of said Support to an article of furniture, a plurality of bars pivotally cohnected together and to each end of said supporting oar and means adapted to engage with a' portion of said pivoted bars.
5. A device `for facilitating the shifting of articles through a narrow aperture 'conithan ysaid Losanna prising a post pivotally mounted to one -side of said aperture, supports mounted on Said post, a horizontal bar mounted on one of said supports, a plurality of bars piv otallyl connected together and to said horizontal har, stop means mounted in the floor of said aperture adapted to engage with a portion of said pivotally connected bars adapted yto facilitate thel shifting of said horizontal bar endwise through the aperture, anda spring means mounted on said horizontal bar adapted to engage with two of said pivotally connected bars to facilitate the o eration of said device.
6. device for facilitating the shifting of articles through a narrow aperture coinprisin' a bearing mounted on the side wall of said aperture, a thrust bearing mounted in the floor ofsaid aperture, a post pivotall)v mounted on said bearings, supports rigidly mounted near vthe upper and lower ends of said posts, a horizontal bar mounted on the lower support adapted to increase its supporting surface, meansl mounted on the upper support adapted to facilitate its c'ounection to' an article of furniture, a plurality o hars pivotally connected to each other and in connection with said horizontal liar and plurality of stop means mounted in the oor adap ed to engage with a portion of said pii'ote lly connected hars when in certain ositions adapted to change the rela- `tire ositions of said bars.
, 7. detice for facilitating the shifting of articles throu'g'h a narrow aperture' comprising a barin'g rigidly attached to the side Walls of the afperturma thrust hearing mounted on the cdr in said aperture, a post pivotally mounted in' said bearing, sup` p'ortsrigidly mounted one near the' top and the other near the bottom of said post, a
