IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-FLOWS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that-I, THEOPHILUS A. WAINWRIGJFIT, of Wilson, in the county of Wilson, and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cottou-Plows, (which I have assigned to Messrs. Farmer & Wainwright;) and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had 1 to tbe accompanying drawings, making a part of this specificatiom'in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the metal portion of my improved cotton-plow.
My invention consists in the construction of the iron frame, for attaching to the point,'and parting-shield above the point, the right and left-wing scraper in the rear, the handles and beam, all in the most simple and elficient manner, each piece being held firmly to the frame by a single bolt or key, as he einafter more fully described. I
The frame A, with its upright post, B curved back-brace G, and flange a, with the big 6 and opening, 0, bolt and key-holes, are all cast perfect and complete from one pattern, ready to receive top parting-shie1d or double mould-board D and the point E, corresponding with its shape, they, both of them, being secured to the upright, B, by a single bolt, 2 e, each.
The rightand left-wing scraper F is also cast in one piece, so that it may beplaced in the opening 0 in the base of the frame A, and firmly secured by one bolt, 0!, in the lug b. The handles of the plow, and the beam, may be constructed in the usual form, and secured to the post B and flange a by a single bolt and key.
Thus it will be seen that a very neat, substantial, simple, cheap, and eflicient cotton-plow can be put up, I with the least possible machine-work in fitting, and be made very durable, as the point and scrapers can be replaced with the most perfect case, when they become worn or broken.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction of the frame A B C, it being cast from one pattern complete, and the manner of securing theretcuallof the necessary parts, as above described, by a single boltor key each, substantially as and for-the purposes herein set forth.
