Description

D. ROBB.
I Side-Hill Plow. I No. 6,553, Patented June 26, 1849.
L AM. PHOTD-LITRO. C0; N.Y.(0SBBRNE'5 PROCESS.)
UNITED STATES DANIEL ROBE, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN HILLSIDE-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 6,553, dated June '26, 1849.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL ROBE, of Springfield, in the county of Sangamon, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Mode of Constructing a Plow, which in its improved form is called Robbs Revolving OaryPlow and .do hereby declare that the following is a full and accurate description thereof.
It is in general shape and form that of the Cary plow; but what I claim as my invention is the extension of the mold-board of the Cary plow by adding a triangular piece on the up per side and so arranging it that the moldboard shall revolve in such a manner that either the upper or the lower edge may operate as a share, and by fastening it permanently to a triangular landside, as in Figure 3 in accompanying drawings. To enable it to revolve, an iron rod, A B, extends from the heel ofthc plow through one of the corners of the landside to the center of that side to which the mold-board isnttached. When used the moldboard is secured in a firm position by the iron rod 0 D, which extends from one side of the landside to the vicinity of the round, to which the handles are attached, so as to be conveniently reached by the operator. When it is desired to reverse the mold-board so as to enable the upper edge to operate as the share, the rodOD may be drawn toward the operator, when the mold-board, with the landside at tached, will immediately revolve upon the iron rod A B, after which it may besccured by replacing the iron rod 0 D in its former position.
The mold-board is designed to be constructed of wrought-iron, in two pieces equal in size and shape, the joint being designated by the line B E in the accompanying drawings.
The landside will be made of cast-iron and secured to the mold-board by screw-bolts.
The extension of the mold-board is designated by the letters I J K in the accompany ing drawings.
I repeat that I claim as my invention--,
1. The extension of the mold-board as above described, and the arrangement of the moldboard so as to make it and the landside revolve together and enable either the upper or lower edge to act as a share and to throw the soil upon either side of the plowman.
2. In combination with the above, the arrangement of the iron rod 0 D and the iron bar L M and its arm G H, so as to secure the mold-board in a firm position when used.
3. The constructing of a three-sided landside which is not fastened permanently to the woodwork, but acts independently thereof, as herein specified and represented.
DANIEL ROBE.
