Be it known that I, MARTIN GAYHART, of Young America, inthe county of Washington, and State of Wis- I consin, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Trace-Buckles; and I do hereby declare that Vthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention. l

Figure 2 is a section of the same throughthe line z :v of fig. J.

The object of this invention is to provide a. buckle for leather traces or tugs, which shall be simple, effective, and easily operated.

' It consists of two parts, which are pivoted together by the rod a, and which pinch the trace when strain is brought upon the two parts, whereby the pinching action relieves the tongue from a portion of the draughtstrain of the trace, as will hereinafter be more fully set forth. V

,a The part A is formed with a. corrugated cross-piece, Af, bearing a tongue, e, which latter passes through a4 hole in the trace C, as shown. A

The strap which connects the buckle to the harness is aiiixed to the cross-piece A,"whereby the draughtstrain actuates the corrugated surface d of `the cross-piece A', to pinch the trace between the cross-piece A sind the cross-piece B,.whch latter is also corrugated, as shown at b. The cross-piece' lB also serves to sustain the end of the tongue e against the draught strain. l

Lugs c c, forming part of the part B B B', 85e., serve to sustain a part 'of the draught strain, and thus relieve the rod a,

.Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The parts A A Af A and B B B B', pivoted together by a rod, a, and provided with a rigid tongue, c, corrugated cross-piece A and B', all constructedand operating substantially asl shown and described, and for .the purpose set forth.
