SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,893, dated May 16, 1905.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, JOHN MILTON W ALTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented a new and. useful Belt, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to belts employed for supporting trousers, and has for its object to produce a simply-constructed and easily attached and detached device whereby the trousers and belt will be mutually supported and prevented from displacement either upwardly or downwardly.

ith these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention ca-- pable of carrying the same into practical Operation, it being understood that the inven tion is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved belt from the front. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of a portion of the central front of the same from the interior. Figs. 3 and 4: are enlarged detail views illustrating the application of the belt.

The improved device comprises a main body portion 10 of any suitable material-such as leather, canvas, or the likeand of any desired width or length, said belt having a buckle 11 at one end provided with an integral tongue 12, spaced from its lower side member and having a shoulder 13 near its free end. At-

tached to the interior opposite edges of the body portion 10 are spaced sections 14, disposed in pairs, with their adjacent edges 15 spaced apart and their adjacent ends 16 likewise spaced apart, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The ends of the sections 14: are reversely curved or rounded, as shown, so that when the belt is placed around the waist outside the waistband of the trousers and drawn around the person for a short distance the suspenderbuttons will enter between the outer portion 10 and the inner face of the sections and firmly support the belt in position. At the same time the integral tongue 12 will be passed beneath the metal keeper usually employed upon the waistbands of trousers, and as indicated at 17 in Fig. 3, wherein a portion of the waistband 18 and front flap 19 of a pair of trousers are represented. By this means it will be obvious that the trousers will be efliciently supported and prevented from moving either upwardl y or downwardly, while at the same time the belt is also supported from displacement.

The belt and trousers are thus mutually supported and prevented from disarrangement, no matter how violent the movements of the wearer may be. The shoulder 13 on the tongue 12 by passing beyond the upper bend of the keeper 17 materially assists in holding the parts in position.

The device may be applied equally as efiiciently to trousers wherein a button, as at 20 in Fig. 4, is employed instead of the keeper 17, as in Fig. 3, as will be obvious.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A belt comprising a strip of fabric having a plurality of fabric sections disposed in pairs and attached to the opposite interior edges of the strip with the adjacent longitudinal edges of each pair of sections spaced apart for receiving the suspender-buttons of a pair of trousers and their opposite ends reversely curved to facilitate the introduction of said Suspender-buttons, and abuckle carried by one end of the belt and provided with a laterally-spaced tongue for engagement with one of the waistband keepers or buttons of said trousers.
