PATENT ()EEIcE.
MATTHEW L. MARGOLISH, OF YE YORK, N. Y.
HOSE-'SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,111, dated April 25, 1905.
Application filed July 2, 1904. Serial No. 215,102.
To all Hill N0 it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW L. MAReoLIsa, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Hose-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hose-supporters of the type adapted to depress and support the abdomen and to depress the hips, producing the so-called straight-front effect, in addition to supporting the hose; and the objects of my invention are to provide a hose-supporter of the class described which will be strong, yet light in weight, small in bulk, easily adjusted, comfortable in use, adapted to be worn either with or without a corset, and to be used either as an abdomen depressor and supporter or a hip-depressor, or both. 1 attain these objects in the manner shown in the accompanying drawing, representing my improved hose-supporter and modifications thereof.
Any suitable material is employed in making-an abdominal depressor and supporter 1 of considerable width in the middle and gradually narrowing or tapering to the ends. This may be made continuous or in sections, as shown at 15, and connected in any suitable manner. This depressor 1 is provided at one end with the straps or webs 2 and 3. These straps may be secured to and extend around the entire depressor, as shown by the dotted lines, for the purpose of strengthening the structure. To the other end of the depressor webs with buckles or other suitable fastenings are secured. I prefer to fold these webs l and 5 and secure the ends to the end of the depressor so that the webs form Vs, as shown, with the buckles 6and Tstrungthereon. This construction affords a flexible, yet firm, fastening for the depressor which can be adjusted to give the desired pressure at any part thereof and retain the abdomen and hips without undue binding and with a gentle even pressure around the entire abdomen and waist, thereby avoiding the dangerous localized pressure of the pads heretofore used. Hence it will be observed that the straps 2 and 3 constitute what may be properly termed a plurality of pressure-straps secured to the abdominal band and extending longitudinally thereof throughout its entire extent. Vhile l have shown but two of these adjustable fastening devices, any desired number may be used. The fastening-webs may be of either elastic or non-elastic material.
To the bottom of the front of the depressor l the webs or garters 8 9 1O 11 of any suitable type are secured. These engage the hose and hold the depressor in place and against any upward movement. On the sides, over the hips, the garters or straps 12 13 are secured. These also are fastened to the hose and serve to further depress the hips. A pad 14 may be secured between the garter and the dcpressor, as shown to the right of the drawing, if a greater hip-depressing action is desired.
The depressor may be made with only the front garters or with only the side garters, or with both.
By abdominal depressor in the claim I mean the part 1 shown in the drawing, which may be of uniform width throughout its length or tapered, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Asupporterof the class described, comprising an abdominal band adapted to encircle the body about the abdomen and tapering toward both ends, a plurality of pressure-straps secured to said band and extending longitudinally thereof throughout its entire extent, said straps at one end being folded to produce V-shaped loops projecting beyond one end of the abdominal band and the other ends of said straps forming fastening ends projecting freely beyond the opposite end of the band, buckles loosely hung in said V-shapcd loops and engaged by the free strap ends, pendent supporter members attached to and hanging from the bottom edge of the abdominal band at the front thereof, and other supporter members attached to and hanging from the bottom edge of the band at the sides thereof.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two attesting witnesses.
