BODY-BRACE AND HOSE-SUPPORTER- Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH COHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Body-Braces and Hose-Supporters, of which. the following is a specification. I

My invention relates to combined abdominal-restrainers and hose-supporters, and has for its object to provide a construction cheap and easy of manufacture, conforming perfectly to the form of thewearer, and which serves not only to support the hose without discomfort, but aid in maintaining a proper carriage of the body. I attain these objects by the construction shown in the accomp any ing drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the supporter as worn, and Fig. 3 is a side View of one-half of the supporter.

1 is a belt or girdle, of suitable material, broadened at its middle point, as at 2, where the joined ends of the fabric are formed by a crescent-shaped cut 3, clearly shown in Fig. 3, and serving to give the band a double curvethat is, both in a vertical direction to conform to the inward curve of the spine and in a horizontal direction to conform to the waist-line of the wearer. From this middle point the girdle narrows to about the point 4, where it passes over the hips, and when in position curves thence downwardly toward each of the widened ends 5 of the girdle, said widened ends overlapping each other and being provided at 6 with a suitable device for securing them together. The securing device preferably comprises a socket and a resilient snap of the type well known in glovefasteners.

The ends 5 are of a size and contour such as will form when united by the fastener a substantial pad to support the abdominal walls, and they also serve as points of attachmerit for the hose-supporting webs or tapes 7, preferably of elastic material and furnished with any desired form of clasp 8 for attachment to the hose.

When adjusted, one tape or web from each end of the girdle is attached to each stocking, as shown in Fig. 2, such manner of attachment tending to prevent the spread of the lower ends of the pad portions 5 and to return them to normal position after being spread.

It will be understood that the belt...or girdle is not adjustable, but is made in sizes to fit the individual wearer, such construction forming an unyielding body portionwithout tension and much more comfortable to the wearer than those of the usual construction.

The advantages of my invention will now be readily seen. First, the girdle is continuous and smooth around the body of the wearer, there being no belt of other metallic fastening to cause discomfort, the only fastening being in front and having nothing to 1 cause friction; second, the overlapping ends of the girdle form a substantial pad exactly at the center of the most prominent part of the abdomen, which pad is held in place by the hose-supporters; third, the fastening-point at the top of the pad forms a pivot for the two end portions of the girdle on which they can swing to accommodate movements of the wearer; fourth, the crossed arrangement of the hose-supporters specified above tends to return the ends to normal position after having been swung outwardly away from each other.

What I claim is- A body-brace and garment-supporter, com prising a continuous girdle having enlarged ends adapted to overlap in front to form an abdominal pad, the top of said overlapping ends being provided with detachable fastening means, and a pair of hose-supporters attached to the lower edges of each enlarged end, one of each pair of hose-supporters being arranged to support one of the hose and the other of each pair the other hose.
