Patented April 11, 1905.
FRANCESCO MARTUUCI, OF JERSEY CITY, N Ell JERSEY.
HAIR-BRUSH CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming" part of Letters Patent No. 787,201, dated April 11, 1905.
Application filed May 2, 1903. Serial No. 155,421.
To (1,]! uJ/umt it 12mg concern:
Be it known that l, Fmxonsoo MAnTUocI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful article known as a Hairbrush Cleaner," of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for removing hair, dust, and the like from hair-ln'ushes, and has for its object the provision of a neat, simple, and effective cleaner for this purpose.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists, essentially, in a case open at the top, means for holding a hair-brush within said case, and a movable comb mounted upon a guidingframe and arranged to reciprocate through the bristles of the brush, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hair-brush cleaner embodying my invention, and Fig. '2 is a vertical sectional view at line X X of Fig. 1 looking from the left.
Similar numerals of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts in both ligures.
1 is a base, upon which are fixed a vertical wall 2, ends 3, and front l, forming an open top case or chamber. The ends and front may be glazed, as shown, or made of any approved material. The wall 2 is provided with a slot 5 for the reception of a screw or stud 6, fixed in the back of a hair-brush T.
9 is a clasp for grasping the handle of the brush.
it) is a vertical standard projecting from the base 1, surrounded by a fixed tube l1.
12 is a tube arranged to slide over the tube ll, and 13 is a coiled spring upon the standard l normally holding the parts in the position shown in the drawings.
14: is a manipulating knob or handle fixed upon the top of the movable tube 12.
Secured to the base 1 at each side of the standard 10 are guide-rods l5, whereon a horizontal comb-holder U3 is free to move, said holder being fixed to the movable tube 12.
17 is a comb, preferably having wire teeth fixed in the holder 16.
\Vhen constructed and arrangedin accordance with the foregoing description, the operation of my hair-brush cleaner is as follows: The brush being placed therein, the knob ll is pressed upon, sliding the comb 17 through the bristles of the brush, carrying the hair and dirt therefrom to the bottom of the casing. \Vhen pressure upon the knob 14 is removed, the parts carrying the comb l7 and said comb are automatically returned to the initial position by means of the spring 13, and the said comb may be rapidly reciprocated through the bristles of the brush until the brush is fully cleaned, the hair, dirt, &c., falling to the bottom of the chamber wherein the brush is supported.
Having now fully described my invention, what I. claim as new therein, and desire to sccure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A hair-brush cleaner in which is comprised a case, open at the top, means for holding a brush within said case, a movable comb adapted and arranged to pass through the bristles of the brush, and means for reciproeating said comb, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a device of the character herein specified, a base whereon is mounted a case, means for holding a hair-brush within said case, in combination with a movable comb-carrier arranged to operate substantially as shown and described.
3. A hair-brush cleaner in which is comprised a base supporting vertical side and end walls, means for holding a hair-brush against one of said walls, standard and guides projecting upward from the base, and a verticallymovable comb-carrying frame arranged to slide upon the standard and guides, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, this 29th day of April, A. D. 1903.
