LACE-CARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,092, dated February '7, 1905.
Application filed June 6,1904. Serial No. 2l1.322.
To It]! 11']; out it may concern..-
Be it known that I, J OHN "ALTER \VoLFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ruralhall, in the county of Forsyth and State of North Carolina, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Lace-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in cards especially designed for application to lace already wound, although it may be employed in winding lace on the card; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of a card with the sections in contracted position. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the sections expanded and secured by the clip. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view showing the two sec tions of the card detached. Fig. 1 is a dctail perspective view of the clip for holding the card-sections in expanded position. Fig. is a detail perspective view of a clip which may be employed for securing the end of the lace or other material held on the card, and Fig. 6 shows a somewhat different construction from that shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
As before suggested, my invention is es pecially designed to be used with lace already wound and without containing a card, the improved device being adaptcd to be contracted at one end, as shown in Fig. 1, so it can be readily inserted in the bolt of lace and then spread to the position shown in Fig. wherein it will securely hold the bolt in place, and to be secured in such position by a clip, such as best shown in Fig. 2.
As shown in Figs. 1, i and 3, the card consists of the sections A, which may be alike and may be made of cardboard or other suitable material and are preferably of the same size and shape, being made wider at one edge than at the other. The two sections A are lapped upon each other and are jointed together at their wide edges, as shown in Figs. 1 and As shown in Figs. 1 and the joint or pivot at B may be etlectcd by means of an eyelet, rivet, or clip, as this operates to securely connect the sections together and at the same time permits the movement of same in adjusting to the dili'crent positions in expanding and contracting the card.
In operation the card may be contracted to the position shown in Fig. 1 and inserted in the bolt of lace or other material which itmay be desired to hold on the card and the card be then expanded to the position shown in Fig. .2 to bind within the bolt of lace and be held in such position by the clip U, such clip operating to hold the card securely in its ex panded position to retain the bolt of lace thereon as desired.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, I may employ a clip 1.) for holding the end of the lace on the card such clip being shown in detail in Fig. 5.
It will be noticed that the clips C and l) are bent at their free ends to form loops 1) and l) for holding the lace without any injury to the latter. I may, however, employ the ordinary clip, such as shown in Fig. 6, and in the latter construction ljoin the card-sections together at one edge by a clip E and provide a clip E for holding the card-sections when expanded from the dotted-line position shown in Fig. 6 to the full-line position shown in the same ligure. it will be understood that this construction shown in Fig. 6 may be employed when desiral without departing from some of the broad principles of my invention.
Manifcstly my improved card may be employed for holding ribbon, tape, and the like, and the clips may be employed for fastening the ends of ribbon, tape, &c., as may be de sired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The improved lace-card hcrein described, comprising the two sections lapped upon each other and pivoted together near one edge whereby they may be adjusted at their other edges to contract the card for insertion in a bolt and then expanded to secure the bolt, and a clip securing the two sections together at the edge opposite the pivot, whereby to hold the same in a bolt, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A lace-cardcomposed of sections lapped upon each other and pivoted together near one tion, substantially as set forth.
4:. A lace-card consisting of two sections made narrower toward one edge, means oining the sections together at their wide edges,
and a fastening for holding the sections together at their narrower edges, substantially as set forth.
5. A lace-card composed of two sections narrowing toward one edge, an eyelet pivoting said sections together at their wide edges, and a clip for holding the sections together at their narrower edges whereby to secure the same when expanded within a bolt of lace or the like, substantially as set forth;
