HOSE-SUPPORTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 780,734, dated. January 24, 1905.

My invention-relates to certain improvements in hose-supporters, but more particularly has reference to that class of such devices which comprises a iiexible pad adapted to be secured in' position by means of a belt passed around the waist of the wearer.

The object of my invention isto provide means for holding the pad as againstany sidewise shifting and also to prevent the pad from slipping upward beyond theproper limit; and with these ends in view Iny invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts, such as, will be hereinafter fully set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.

In supporters of this kind a large cloth pad has been provided, at the upper corners of which a buckle and belt-strap have been secured, so that the pad may be suspended around the waist of the wearer without any other attachment to the corset itself, while the hose-supporter elementsproper depend from the bottom edge of this pad. struction of this sort a great annoyance has been experienced owingto the fact that the padwould shift sidewise and would not hang -in proper position immediately in front of In usi-ng a con-1 tion of the limbs of the wearer.

l represents the sections of an ordinary corset, and 2 the busks thereof, which are usually secured together by means of metal clasps, which latter comprise a loop secured to one busk and astud secured to the other busk. At Fig. 1 I have shown one of these clasps in dotted lines in the immediate rear of the pad of supporter, said loop and stud being respectively denoted by the numerals 3 and 4;.

5 represents a large flexible pad, usually made of cloth, and secured to the upper corners of this pad are a belt-strap 6 and a buckle 7, by means of which the pad is secured around lthe waist of the wearer, as shown in the drawshown short sections 8, which represent the hose-supporter tapes secured to the bottom of the pad, and I desire that it be understood that any suitable number of hose-supporter tapes .of anyv preferred form of construction may be secured to the bottom of the pad.

Projecting from the rear of the pad is a :meeting edges of said busks, land when the pad has been secured by means of the belt and buckle aforesaid this head will be drawn very close if not quite up to the bottom clasp ofthe corset, and it will therefore be very readily understood that the pad cannot possibly be displaced sidewise and that it cannot ride upwardlybeyond a proper limit, owing' to the abutment of the shank 9 against the corset-clasp. Furthermore, it will be noted that the pad is capable of a rocking movement with the shank 9 as a pivot, while at the same time a free vertical play of the pad is permitted, so that said pad is in no sense secured to any part of the corset.

There are several ways in which my improvement may be constructed, but in all instances it is necessary that a flanged element should be employed at the rear of the pad capabie of being inserted immediately behind the eorset-busks. For instance, at Fig. 4 I have shown a metal body 1l seeured to the rear of the pad 5, the free end of this body being bent upwardly so as to form a flange or tongue l2, as shown more particularly in section at Fig. 5, which flange would beinserted at the bottom of the corset immediately in the rear of the corset-busks, so as to perform the same function in substantially the same manner as in the instance of they construction shown at Fig. 2. I prefer, however, to utiliZe the construction shown at Fig. 2, since it is neater and more compact; but I do not wish to be limited in this respect, since my invention contemplates, broadly, a device extending from the rear of the pad and capable of being loosely engaged with the corset in the immediate rear of the busks, so as to center the pad and hold the same as against displacement in any direction.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A hose-supporter comprising a eXible pad, a sole means of suspension consisting of a belt attached to said pad and adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearer, and a device independent of said means of suspension and carried by said pad ata point below said means of suspension and adapted to be loosely engaged with the corset in the rear of the husk-sections thereof.

2. In a hose-supporter, a iiexible pad, a sole means of suspension consisting of a belt attached to the upper corners of said pad and adapted to be secured around the waist of the wearer, and a keeper device independent of said means of suspension and secured to the pad at a point below said means of suspension and having a flanged element extending from the rear of said pad and adapted to be inserted loosely between the busls and in the immediate rear thereof and below the bottom corsetclasp.

3. A hose-supporter comprising a Iiexible pad, a sole means of suspension consisting of a belt attached to the upper corners of lsaid pad and adapted to be secured around the waist of the wearer, and a metallic base portion secured to the rear of the pad and having projecting therefrom at a point below said means of suspension a iianged elemcntadapted to be loosely contained in the immediate rear of the corset-busks and below the bottom corset-clasp.

4. In a hose-supporter, a Iiexible pad, a waist-belt attached to the Lipper corners of said pad, and a metallic base secured to the pad and having a shank surmouuted by an overhanging head projecting slightly beyond the rear face of said pad at a point below said means of suspension, said head adapted to be inserted from the bottom of the corset in the immediate rear of the busls thereof, while the shank is interposed between the meeting edges of said busks, said head and shank being at all times independent of said means of suspension and below the bottom corset-clasp and capable of a free vertical play.
