TO ALL WHOIWLITlVI-AY CON CERN:
Be it known that WILLIAM S. SIMPSON, of Berea, in the county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Combined Mop and Scrub-Brush; and I do hereby declare that the-following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, formling part of this specification. i
This invention relatesto improvements in utensils used for cleaning floors of dwellings, stairs, and steps, or
walls, and for all similar purposes; and it consists in combining-with the scrub-brush, rollers, between which n mop or absorbing-cloth is'coni-ned and operated, as hereinafter described.
Figure l represents a. longitudinal side view of the machine, showing the brush and the rollers, and its general construction.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal edge view, showing more distinctly the frame and leversto which the brush and the rollers are secured. I .I y i Figure 3 is a. section through the line a: of g. 'l. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the frame; to the lower portion of which the brush is secured -by clevis-fastenings and pins,
as seen at b b.
B is the brush. l
C is the handle, which is secured to the upper portion of the frame in any substantial mauner.
D is a roller, which' is revolved within .the frame A, ivith a. pivot at each. end, which passes through theV frame, as seen ate.
F is the upper roller, which isu'ttachedlby pivots at each end to bent levers, f, the form of which is more i plainly seen in iig. 2, .v
These levers are attachedA te the sides of the frame A by pins, g, which pins form the fulcra of the "levers, The outerendsa-re also attached to the frameA by bolts, 7L, which serve, by screwing'up, to bring the rollers' nearer together,or to compress the cloth between them, according to the pressure thus imparted.
For the purpose of giving vtlrese bent vlevers a certain degreeof elasticity, so as to allow solid particles of matter or slight obstructions to pass betweenL the rollers, there-are small spiral springs, t', secured around the bolts,.as seen in rig. 2.
The mop O r absorbing-cloth is marked J, and itis secured between the rollers, as seen in 'the drawing. When using the brush B, the ends of this cloth are secured to hooks onthe handle, as seen at m.
vWhen mopping', the cloth is drawn buck and forth, between the rollersnver a pail for squeezing the water' therefrom. y
n indicates flanges on the lcvcrs to prevent the cloth from catching over the ends ofthe roller, The brush, B, may be easily`d'etached and used separately, if desired. The rollers are made olf wood, or any other suitable material.Y The frame and levers are made of malleable iron, or brass, or other 'suitable metal, and of suilicient size and'strength for thc purpose intended.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent'- Thc combination of thefrumc A, having arms g, brush B, 4rollers l) F, levers f, adjustablespring-bolt L z, and mop-cloth J, all constructed and arranged as described, for the purpose specified. y WM s. SIMPSON. Witnesses:
WILLIAM OHLn,
