PATENT OFFICE.
BRACE FOR PLOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 772,757, dated October 18, 1904.
Application filed May 21, 1904.
Be it known that 1, WI LIAM H. THoMAs. a citizen of the United States, residing at Covington, in the county. of Tipton and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braces for Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to plows.
It has for its object to improve the metho of bracing the beam and post.
To this end the invention consists of brackets, preferably made of suitable light metal of requisite strength, applied one on each side to connect the beam and post, the handles fitting over said brackets.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plowbeam and post connected by my improved brace. and the handle secured to said post over the portion of said brace extending along the post. Fig. 2 is a similar view with a portion of the handle broken away, disclosing the full outline of the brace; and Fig. 3 is a sectional View through the post-braces and handles, taken on the line a: w of Fig. 1.
. Referring more particularly to the drawings, the'braces 1 are preferably made of malleable iron and come rights and lefts to fit both sides of the beam 2 and post 3. Each brace is composed of a straight rod-like portion, preferably flattened on one side and rounded on the other, adapted to extend along the post, a portion 5 to extend along the beam connected to the part 4 by branches 6 7, one joining said part 2 near its extremity and the other near its center, and a round rod or bar 8, extending between the extremities of said other portions. The portion 5 is also preferably flattened on the back and round at the front. The brace or bracket is preferably made integral and is generally triangular in shape.
Serial No. 209,083. (No model.)
The handles 9 are applied structed and when applied will hold the parts securely in place. I am aware that changes may be made in my invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof. For instance, the shape of the rods or sides of the bracket may be changed by making themangular in cross-section and the angles between said sides varied at will. I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a plow, the combination with the beam,
post and handles, of a brace comprising a' portion extending along the post under the handles, a portion extending along'the beam and a portion joining the extremities of the other portions and extending between the beam and post.
2. A plow-frame comprisinga beam, a post, a brace comprising a portion extending along said post, a portion extending along said beam, and a portion joiningthe extremities of'said other portions and extending between said beam and post, and handles having a groove adapted to fit over said portion of said bracket extending along said post.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in 7 presence of two witnesses.
