Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL L. H. MITCHELL, OF FOREST, MISSISSIPPI.
IMDRQVEMENT IN PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152, [50, dated June 16, 1,874 application filed September 15, 1873.
To all lwhom it may concern Beit known that I, DANIEL L. H. MITCH- ELL, of Forest, in the county of Scott and in the State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows and do hereby declare that the following is a full, cl'ear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a plow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a side view of my plow. Fig. 2 is aperspective-view, and Fig. 3a bottom view, of the same.
A represents a curved metal beam, provided with a socket or pocket, a, through which the wooden beam B passes, the two beams being secured together by screws or other suitable means. The rear curved part of the metal beam A passes through a longitudinal slot in the standard C, and is fastened by means of a` screw or pin, b. The standard C is made perfectly straight, solid at both ends, and a longitudinal slot through the body of the standards. At the upper end of this standard are pockets d d, for the insertion of the handles E E, which are fastened by a pin or screw passe, projecting inward from the point.""'i"ll'i"e point is secured to the nioldboard by screws or dovetail, and the mold-board and landside are welded together. The land-side bar Gis then secured to the lower ends of the' standard C and beam A.
It will be seen that the standard C and handles E E are on aline, and nearly onastraight line with the point, making the plow very easy to manipulate and guide.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the curved metal beam A with pocket a, the wooden beam B, slotted standard C, with pockets d d, and handles E E, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day' of August, 1873.
DANIEL L. H. MITCHELL.
