JAMES G. .STOWE.
Improvement in Cultivators;
N0. 127,935. 7 I Patentedl une1l',18 72.

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
JAMEs c. sTowE, OF BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 BLOOMING- TON MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF sAME PLAoE.
lMPROVEMENT IN CU LTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,936, dated June 11, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES G. STOWE, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oorn-Plows and Corn-Cultivators; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my invention as a wheeled cultivator. Fig. 2 represents a plan view of the same as a cornplow. Fig.3 represents detached views of the ball-and-socket connection, the shovel-block, shovel, and mode of connection with the plowbeams.
The nature of my invention consists in the I construction and arrangement of the parts of acorn-plow or cultivator, as willbe hereinafter more fully set forth.
A A in the annexed drawing represent the the two beams of the plow, which are made of suitable metal pipes bent to the required shape and joined together at their forward ends. To the beams thus formed are attached the usual plow-handles, as shown. Where the two beams unite at the front there is attached a ball which fits into a corresponding socket, E, which is provided with suitable devices for connecting the same to the axle of a wheel-cultivator or a single-tree, as shown. A pin, S, is passed through the socket and a slot in the ball, so that the plow-beams may be moved laterally or up and down, as desired by the operator. 0 0 represent the shovel-blocks, which are made of suitable metal and encircle the lower ends of the tubular beams. These blocks are provided with an L-shaped slot, and the plowbeams are provided with a short bolt and screw, 00. The shovels B are attached to the blocks 0, and the connection with the beams is made by passing the blocks over the beams so that the bolts slide through the slots, and the blocks then turned on the beams somewhat similar to the mode of connecting a bayonet to a fire-arm. To remove the blocks and shovels from the beams it is only necessary to unloosen the screws, turn the blocks, and slip them off.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the plow-beams A A, of the L-shaped slotted blocks 0 O and bolt and screw 00, all constructed and used substantially as set forth.
J. G. STOWE.
