PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. NABOURS, OFSOLGOHACHIA, ARKANSAS.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,253, dated March 25, 1902.
Application filed September 10,1901. Serial No. 74,928. (No model.)
To an whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FRANCES NA- BOURS, of Solgohachia,-in the county of Conway, State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a complete specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved landside which may be readily at tached to a plow-stock, so as to convert an ordinary twisting or other shovel plow into a landside-plow conveniently and at will.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a perspective view of a portion of aplow-stock provided with a twisting-shovel and with my landside assembled therewith. Fig. II is a front view of the plow-foot shown in Fig. I, showing the manner of applying my landside thereto, the shovel being indicated in dotted Fig. III is a section on the line III III of Fig. II. Fig. IV is a perspective view of the preferred form of my landside detached.
Referring to the numerals on the drawings, 1 indicates a portion of a plow-beam, 2 the stilts, and 3 the standard. The standard illustrated consists of a metal loop bent, as indicated at 4, and secured tothe beamjl, which it straddles, as by bolts 5. The form of the standard is not an essential feature of my invention.
6 indicates an ordinary shovel which is adapted, as by a bolt 7 and a nut 8 thereon, (see Fig. III,) to be secured to the standard in an ordinary manner.
My invention is the landside 9, which consists of a footpiece 10 and a sheth-plate 11,
fitting and complete whole.
which meet at a sharp angle in a too 12. The sheth-plate 11 should be formed to lie flat against the side of the standard 3 and to conform to the curvature of the under side of the shovel 6, so that when the shovel, standard, and landside are assembled they form a well Upon the side of the sheth plate which in practice fits against the standard I' provide' a retaining member 14, which preferably consists of a hook that snugly fits into a recess provided for it in the standard. With the form of standard illustrated the retaining member 14 simply overlaps one sideof the standard above the loop. By this arrangement the bolt 7 is adapted to secure both the shovel and the landside to the standard.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a plow-standard and a landside provided with a sheth-plate attached thereto, of a shovel or similar member adapted to cooperate with the landside, means for securing the shovel to the landside, and a hooked retaining member upon one side of the sheth-plate, located between the shovel and the standard. 2. As a new article of manufacture, a de= tachable landside comprising an integral footpiece, sheth-plate and hooked retaining member upon the side of the sheth-plate.
In testimony of all which I have hereunto subscribed my name.
' WILLIAM F. NABOURS.
