PATENT OEEIcE,
CLAUDE HOLT, OF ABBEVILLE, ALABAMA.
ATTACHMENT FOR REVOLVERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,728, dated October 4, 1904.
Application filed April 1, 1903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE HOLT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Abbeville, in the county of Henry and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Revolvers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to attachments for revolvers; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts. as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The drawing shows a side elevation of a revolver havingportions broken away and showing the knife-blade and corkscrew arranged therein and closed.
The numeral 1 designates a revolver of any preferred form having the usual barrel 2 and stock 3. 'Depending from the barrel 2 is an extension 4, having a longitudinal slot 5 formed therein and opening out through the bottom and forward extremity of said extension. This slot will be just wide enough to receive a knife-blade 6, which is adapted to close upwardly therein and pivoted, as at 7 to the forward extremity of the extension through the medium of the usual blade-tang 8. The lower edge of the extensioniand the upper horizontal wall 9 of the slot 5 are parallel, and the blade 6, when closed into the said slot 5, has its reduced or cutting edge at a distance from the horizontal wall 9. Between the blade 6 and the Wall 9 a back-spring lever 10 is pivoted, the fastening 11 for said spring-lever passing through an intermediate portion of the latter, so that one end 12 of said spring-lever, is provided with an upward projection 12, which is secured by means of a pin 8 and held between the horizontal wall 9 of the slot 5. The spring 10 is disposed at a forward and downward angle of inclination, and the forward extremity thereof is always held in close contact with the tang 8. The tang 8 has straight side edges Serial No. 150,658. (No model.)
I 13 and 14 and an end edge 15. forming, with the edges 13 and 14, the third side of a square, or, in other words, the sides 13 and 14 are at right angles to the third side 15. When the blade 6 is closed, the forward extremity of the spring lever 10 bears upon the side 13 of the tang, and said blade will thereby be prevented from accidentally opening or having loose movement. In opening the blade the outer side 15 turns over against the forward extremity of the spring-lever 10 until said extremity bears upon the side 14, the latter having a stopshoulder 16 for obvious reasons. When the blade is open and the forward extremity of the spring-lever 10 is in engagement with the side 1 and the forward terminal of the springlever 10 abuts against the shoulder 16, the blade 6 will be prevented from springing upwardly when pressure is exerted thereon dur ing a cutting operation. During the use of the blade when open the revolver is grasped around the barrel, which serves as a handle.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is B An attachment for revolvers comprising the barrel having depending therefrom an extension which is provided with a longitudinal slot therein, a knife-blade having its tang portion pivoted in the slot at the forward end of the extension, a spring-lever pivoted at its central portion in the slot above the blade and provided at its inner end and on its upper surface with an upward projection which is secured between the walls of the slot and held therein to prevent vibration of the same whereby to permit the front end of said springlever having operative connection with the tang of the blade to hold and control the latter when said blade is in an open or closed position, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLAUDE HOLT.
