PIRE ARM HOLDER.
No. 267,714I 1 Patented Nov. 21, 1882.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH C. PETMEOKY, OF AUSTIN, TEXAS.
FIRE-ARM HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION Vforming part of Letters Patent No. 267,714, dated November 21, 1882.
` Application led May 2, 1852. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, J osEPH C. PETMECKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and StateofTexas, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Arm Holders; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form apartof this specification.
My invention is an improvement in that class of pistol-holders which may be fastened around the waist of aperson, and which holds the tire-arm by a screw secured firmly to the same.
Itconsists ofa plate ot'malleable iron or other suitable metal, curved to conform to the waist ofa person, having secured to it on theinside a spring adapted to push outward from the waist toward an auxiliary slotted countersunk plate, serving to hold the head of the screw attached to the firearm, all of which will be fully set forth hereinafter.
In my drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Similar reference letters indicate like parts in all of the gures.
Referring to the drawings, A is the main plate, provided with an 0pening,K, about the shape of an ordinary key-hole, adapted to receive the end of a spring which projects through it.
B is a thin plate, secured to plate A by rivets, provided with a slot which is circular at a point near the center and widens out toward the forward end of said main plate. The metal of this second plate is turned out from the convex surface ofthe main plate sufficiently to receive the head of a screw, C, secured to a tire-arm.
D' is the spring, attached by a rivet, a, to the main plate A, which rests close to the inner side ofthe same, and is bent out so as to turn into the opening K, and is again bent to form a seat for the head of the screw C. A collar, e, is formed at the head of the long slot in the auxiliary plate B to form a rounded bearing to the neck of the screw when the latter is in place in the holder. `The screw C is provided with a head that is slightly rounded on its top and spherical in form on its under side, and when in place in its seat on the spring D it is clamped to position between said spring and that portion ot' the auxiliary plate surrounded by the collar e by the elastic forceot' said spring. The screw C is brought to place in the holder by being slid from the wide portion of the slot in th plateB back against the flat end of the spring D, which latter yields to the wedging force ot' the screw-head and allows said head to nd its place under theV said collar e.
The lire-arm is withdrawn from the holder by an inward pressure, which relieves the head of the screw and allows itto be readily drawn from its hold.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` 1. In a re-arxn holder, the plate A,in combination with the auxiliary slotted plate B and spring D, as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination, with the plates A B a-nd spring D, of the screw G, as and for the purpose set forth.
1 In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH C. PETMEGKY.
Witnesses: I
DAVID H. HEWERTT, JOHN C. RANDOLPH.
