TO'ALL WHOM IT-MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HIFNRYY COULIER, of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvementgin Holders for Lamp-Chimneys; and I do herebydecla're the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the same.
My inventionfconsists of a lamp-chimney holder, having springs, constructed andarranged as fully described hereafter, so that they will retain upon the holder either a swelled or cylindrical chimney.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, refere'ncc being bad to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved chimney-holder for lamps,
Figure 2 the same partly intsection,
Figure 3 a plan view, and
Figure 4 a detached view of part of the burner.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views. a
A is the usual wick-tnbe,contained inandtsecured to the perforated casing B, the latter having at its lower end the usual screw-projection, e, for attachment to the reservoir, and near its upper end a partition, d, of perforated plate or wire gauze."
Dis the circular chimney-holder, and forms a part ofthe dome a, whichv has the'usual elongated opening,
the casing 13 being so secured to this holder as tobe readily detached therefrom. Two ledges, b and f, are formed on this holder, the lower and outer ledge, 12. for receiving the lower end of a cylindrical chimney, E, fig. 2, and the upper and inner lcdge,f, for receiving the lowe r flanged end of the swelled chimney, F, fig. 1.
Three wire rings, 7 h 72, are secured to the holder D, andare scbent'that theirupper ends willbear against I the inside of the cylindrical chimney, when thelatterjrests. on the' ledge b, as seen in-fig. 2, and so that they will overlap the flange of the swelled chimney, when the latter has been adjusted to the led'gefof the holder, as seen in fig. 1, the springs thus servingto holdeither style of-chiinne'y, whichever it may he desired to use.
There are perforations in the holder between the two ledges, and other perforations in the ledgef, so that, whichever styleof chimney be used, a'plentiful-supply of air cangain access to it from below;
Ido not desire to claim, in this application, a holder havingledges for reoeivingidiiferent chimneys; but
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Pateut- I Springs h h It, so constructed and connected to alamp-chimneyholder as to retain'upon the same either a swelled or a cylindrical chimney, as specified. I v
Iu-testimonywhereof, have signed my uameto'this specifio'ationin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
H. GOULTER."
