W. JAY KE'IOHAM, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GEORGE S. PRINDLE, OF AURORA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN RETAINERS FOR NECKTIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 76,468, dated April 7, 1868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W. J. KETGHAM, ot' VVasbington, in the District ofOolunlbi-a, have invented an Improvement in Necktie-Holders; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof, ret'u erence being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specilcation, in which- Figure l is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-section. Fig. 3 is a View ot' the necktie and holder combined.

A represents the frame,curved to tit the neck, made ot' brass, steel, or other metals, or o1.` any llexible material, such as parchment,

This holder may be made of one piece, if desired, theends of A'being prolonged and bent over so as to form the catches B B.
The operation of this holder is Very simple By straightening the frame A the catches B B are separated at D, allowing them to pass over the button as the holder is placed in position, when upon releasing the frame A it resumes the curved forni, bringing the ends ot' the catches together' and iirmly clasps the button between the notches. To remove it the same process is necessary.
The advantages possessed by this holder over all others in use are that it is easier to place in position and less liable to be accidentally detached, it is more simple in construction, and can be produced at less cost.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'Ihe within-described retainer for neckties, consisting ot' the spring base or plate A and catches B B, the latter provided with slots D, and its ends meeting or overlappingeacb other, the Whole arranged substantially as shown and described.
