Fig. 7 is a vertical section through the holding or locking plates and garment-pieces where the devices are at-l I supporting plates. i This part of ,the -device comprises an outer plate 1, provided adjacent to each end with transverse 1 openings 2, through which maybe passed a tape or belt extended around and secured about the body. In this plate 1 are also 'made locking-openings 8, in which the tongues of the locking- My invention relates to improvements in` garment-supporters; and the object is to pro- Q vvide'the art and trade with an improved comj bined garment-supporter and placket-closer' plate 4 engage to hold the plate 1 in proper position. The upper edge of the plate 1 is alsoi'ormed with inwardly-inclined fiange 5, which serves as a frictional locking-fiange, Vover which the hooks of the skirt-plates engage. The locking-plate 4 is made of the shape seen in Fig. 6, being an oblong piece of suitable metal shouldered at each end portion, as at 6, and at the ends is formed with locking-tongues 7 and along-its lower edge is made with a series of prongs 8, which engage in the material of the waist, and thus hold these plates against slipping down when the skirt is supported by them. The shouldered ends of the lockingplate 4 are let through slits, as shown, which may be protected by buttonhole-work in a manner well known.

In Fig. 8 is illustrated a holdingfplate provided with prongs 9 to engage in the material of the waist. In the use of this platel the locking-slits 3 are absent and the plate is held in position by the prongs and the tape or belt and the locking-plate 4 is dispensed with.

.1() 11 designatethe lockingfplates, which are secured to the skirt-band at opposite sides of the upper end of the placket. In Fig. 2 the plates are as they appear from the outside of the skirt-band, and in Fig. 8 they are shown reversed or as seen from the inside. The plate 10 consists of an oblong metal plate provided with a tongue 16 at its outer end, which is turned down on the plate, so as to hook in an eye secured to theskirt-band and hold the plate from being pulled out lengthwise, and at its front end is formed with a tongue 12, which takes under one of the hooks ofV the plate 11. This plate is also formed with a transversely-positioned tongue vor hook 13, which is turned down on the face of the plate and hooks over holding-plate 1. Near the outer edge of the plate 10 is a short hook 14,

extending but partly across the plate from its upper edge and formed with a rounded or cam edge 15, so as to permit the convenient engagement and disengagement of the plates. The plate 11 is formed with a hook 16' at its inner end to engage under an eye 17 and hold the plate against endwise displacement and at its outer end is formed with a tongue 1'7, which laps over the other platel and passes under an eye or other suitable holder 22, secured to the skirt-band. The plate 10 is also provided with a hook 16, which engages an eye or other fastening 17/. On the upper edge of the plate 11 are two supporting-hooks 18, which hook over the holding-plate 1, and thus mainly Support the skirt in suspension therefrom.

Adjacent to the outer end of each of the plates 10 11 is pivotally secured the upper end of a placket-steel 19, made of iiexible flat steel bars extending well down to the lower end of the'pl'acket and there pivotally and detachably united. rlhe connection at the lower ends of the placket-steels is made by securing a headed stud 2O in one of the steels and in the other making a keyhole- Slot 21, in which the stud engages. The slot 21 is made long enough so as to compensate for the accompanying movements of the parts and for convenience in the operation of uniting and disuniting the plates 10 and 11.

To utilize my device, the proper sheaths are made along the edges of the placket, wherein the placket-steels are to be held. The steels are then placed in the sheaths and the plates 10 11 secured to the skirt-band and the lower ends of the steels buttoned together. The plates are then interlocked by hooking the free or other hook'of the plate 11 over the plate 10, then tilting the plate 11 until its upper edge slips under the cam-hook 14, when by restoring the plates to horizontal alinement the connection is complete, and the skirt can be lifted by its steels are moved in opposite vertical directions, when the head of the stud may be unbuttoned, and then the steels may be withdrawn.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. A skirt-supporter and placket-closure, comprising a detachably-holding plate secured to the waist, interlocking.;` plates secured to the skirt-band on opposite sides of the placketopening and formed with hooks to engage over the holding-plate and also over each other, and placket-steels pivotally secured to each interlocking plate and having a pivotal connection at their lower ends whereon the steels may have vertical play.

2. A skirt-supporter and placket-closure, comprising interlocking plates secured to the skirt-band on opposite sides of the placketopening, and provided with inwardly-projecting interlocking means to engage a support, a placket-steel pivotally secured to each interlocking plate, the placket-steels having their lower ends pivotally and detachably secured together.

3. Acombincd skirt-supporter and placketclosure,comprising a plate secured tothe skirtband one side oi' the placket and formed with means to engage a support, a second plate secured to the skirt-band on the opposite side of the placket and having inwardly-projecting means to engage a support and an outwardlyprojecting hook to engage over the other plate, a placket-steelpivotally secured to cach plate and pivotally and detachably secured at their lower ends.

4. In a skirt-supporter and placket-closure, the combination with interlocking members secured to a skirt-band, of rods pivoted to said members, one oi said members being provided with a keyhole-slot in its lower end, and the other with a headed pinto engage the slot in the other rod to pivotally and detachably connect said rod and also permit the rods to have vertical movement.
