GARMENT ATTACHMENT.
Specification or" Letters Patent.
Patented J une 10, 1919.
Application led August 26, 1918. Serial No. 251,401.
To all whom t may concern.' i
Be it known that I, JOHN P. REINIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is the provision of an inexpensive device which combines the functions of a suspender attachment and a support for a nether garment, such as underdrawers; which permits the ready engagement of said parts with the attachment and which affords a strong and reliable connection of the device to the garment.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a fragmentary perspective view of a garment provided with the attachment. Fig. Q. is a vertical section on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on line 4-4f, Fig. 2.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
l indicates the waistband of a pair of trousers, and 2 the waistband of the underdrawers or nether garment provided on its outer face with a horizontal strip or piece of tape 3 fastened thereto only at its ends to form a supporting loop. l indicates a suspender-end carrying a hook 5 of any suitable construction.
The improved attachment includes an approximately A-shaped central portion comprising a pair of spaced upright side bars G connected at their upper ends by a bow or curved bar 7 forming with said bars an eye or loop adapted to be engaged by the hook of the suspender-end. About midway of their length, the bars 6 are connected by a cross bar 8 which stiffens them and also serves as an attaching member which is stitched to the inner side of the trousers, as shown at 9. Located at the lower end of Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the each side bar, on the outer side thereof, is an upwardly or reversely extended hook 10, the two hooks being adapted to receive the loop or strap 3 of the nether garment to support the latter and hold it up in place. As shown at 11, the bights of these hooks are stitched to the waistband of the trousers. These hooks together with said A- shaped central portion present an approximately W-shaped attachment having a fastening-bar across its central loop.
In order to avoid bulkiness and render the attachment as compact as possible, the hooks 10 are preferably located in the plane of the side bars 6, as best shown in Fig. fl, the loop 3 of the nether garment passing over said bars 6 and behind the hooks.
To facilitate the engagement of the suspender end with the device, the eye or loop 7 is arranged to project above the upper edge of the waistband, as shown.
The entire attachment can be cheaply stamped in one piece from a blank of sheet metal or formed of any other suitable material.
As the device has three points of attachment, it is securely fastened to the garment and the strain is distributed accordingly. The means of attachment afforded by the cross bar 8 also prevents the device from tilting or swinging out of its normal position, keeping it in the proper place to receive the suspender end and the loop of the nether garment.
I claim as my invention:
A garment attachment, comprising an approximately A-shaped central portion and reversely-extended side-portions forming hook-members with the sides of said central portion and presenting therewith an approximately W-shaped attachment, the cross bar of the A-shaped portion and the bights of said hook-members forming attaching means for the device.
