GARMENT-FASTENER- SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 759,625, dated May 10, 1904.

To all whom, it may concern.
Be it known that I, ETHEL MAGAZINER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a garment fastener or eye such as is used in cooperation with a hook to secure together the overlapped edges of a garment.
It consists of an eye adapted to be secured to the garment, so that it shall be entirely covered when in use.
It further consists of novel means for sew: ing the eye to the garment.
It further consists of other novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents in perspective an eye embodying my invention. Fig. Qrepresents, partly in elevation and partly in vertical section, a portion of a garment provided with my device with a hook cooperating therewith. Fig. 3 represents in perspective a hook which may be used with the eye embodying my invention.

Referring to the drawings, A designates an eye formed by an integral piece of wire and comprising a cross-bar B, adapted to engage with the bill of a hook and united by vertically-extending portions C to a base portion consisting of substantially parallel side bars D D, in each of which is formed a verticallyextending shoulder E and each of which is provided at its free end with a loop F.
G designates a hook. H and K designate, respectively, the overlap and underlap of a garment. The hook G, which may be of the form shown in Fig. 2 or of usual or any desired construction, is attached to the overlap of the garment so as to be entirely covered thereby. The eye A is similarly attached to the underlap of the garment, the loops F being adjacent the edge thereof, as shown in Fig. 2. The vertically-extended portion C raises the cross-bar B above the plane of the base portions DD and in proper position to engage with the hook Gr. As shown in Fig. 2, the eye is permanently sewed to the garment at four points that is, at each loop F and in the spaces between the vertically-extended portions C and the shoulders E. It will be noted that the vertically-extendiug portions thus serve as abutments to prevent the eye slipping beneath the stitches toward or from the edge of the garment. It will also be noted that in my device no portion of the side bars D D underlies the cross-bar B, so that it is only necessary to raise the bar B sufficiently to permit the bill of the hook to pass between the bar and the fabric of the garment. By this construction also the bill of the hook does not come in contact with any of the stitches, so that wear or cutting of the stitches is prevented. It will also be noted that by positioning the side bars which form the base of the eye wholly at one side of the cross-bar the entire eye, as well as the hook, is concealed from view by the overlap of the garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An eye consisting of an integral piece of wire comprising side bars having stitch-engaging loops at their free ends, verticallyextending portions at their other ends and a hook-engaging cross-bar connecting such vertically-extending portions, said side bars being provided with vertically extending shoulders adjacent but spaced away from said cross-bar-supporting portions, whereby stitch-engaging portions are formed in said side bars adjacent said cross-bar and are provided with vertical abutments on each side thereof.
